Figured out my bogging problem

Post by mgbv8 »

I'm sticking too much gas into the engine on the launch. The revs are not high enough to cope with the gas. I'm fitting an rpm window switch to solve the problem.

I tried that Tony. But she doesnt launch hard enough.
I'm going to have a bash at the Sunday of USC to see if I can launch hard off gas, and bring it on big at 4000 rpm. She will handle a 75 shot off the line, but the 150 shot just bogs my old V8 down until the revs are above 4k.

Agreed Paul
But my trusty 3500 has done so well for a 32 year old engine. And she has more to give too.
The old 215CI will make a 12 dead soon mate. Just need to get the launch and 60ft sorted. It is a whole new ball park with the auto, and I'm loving every minute of the learning curve. Especially with pistons only costing 13 quid each!!

Haha , that's awesome :D

I think a controller here would see you in great shape, being able to ramp it up and get more down, without it bogging. Take a bit of the shock out of it as well.

Maybe an alternative would be a two-stage system? Not sure of the logistics on that one though.

How about a smaller torque convertor, so it'll spin up quicker? Con the gas into thinking you have a bigger motor :D

I'm already using a holeshot 2800 converter. She locks up around 3000rpm.
Maybe if I fitted a 4000rpm stall converter I could do what you say Paul. Maybe I'll stick one in the new race car. I still like to have some road driveability on the MGB, and the 3000rpm stall speed just hangs on to a reasonable MPG.

I forgot to add!

That makes sense Paul. My cam doesnt really get on top via the rhoades lifters until 3700 rpm. Then she will take shed loads of gas.

Food for thought, thanks.
