Where do I start ??

Post by ChrisR »

Id really like to LPG my LDV but as far as I can see its gonna set me back best part of £1000.

Is there any cheaper alternative ?? Can kits be bought and self fit maybe ?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated !!

Cheers, Chris

Tinley Tech (google it) is a good place to start; they do sell kits for self installation.

However, if you do self install, you are almost certain to find that your insurance company will want it to be checked by a competent LPG technician (no definition of this !) and may very likely also want it certified on the LPGA database (see www.drivelpg.co.uk).

Lots more about this on the LPG Forum (www.lpgforum.co.uk)

£1000 is pretty reasonable for a simple installation today; I paid about £650 - £700 for a simple installation in 2007. You need to do the maths to work out how soon you will 'save' what you paid (your average mileage, local petrol/lpg price difference, mpg you do on petrol - lpg will be a bit worse - etc). In my case, it paid for itself in about 10 months.

ive read your other post ....

i assume your v8 is on carbs ?
it very much depends on how handy your DIY skils are ...
you can easily fit an Lpg setup for around £200 ...
there are loads of parts on Ebay ....
its a very simple setup on older engines ....
im running a v8 on LPG and im running it on lpg only ...nevers gets switched to petrol and hasnt for at least 6 months now :-)

As Bodger says they can be found for very little money.

Last time I ran an LPG setup the vehicle didn't even have a petrol tank in it.

Ignition setup is vital to good performance of LPG, dont skimp on that side of things.
