Wastegate size

Post by Twinturbotr7 »

Hi Ive got rover v8 3.9 with some refurbished rotor master turbos from an old janspeed kit coupled to boost performance cast manifolds , it’s twin turbo setup ,I’m looking at getting some external wastegates , Will 38mm be ok for me I’m going to be running low boost to Start with at least , Ive seen some nice tial 38mm wastegates that will fit ok and won’t break the bank , the next size up is more expensive and bigger in external dimensions , this may be problem , just wanted your options on will then 38mm be ok , thanks Nick

38's tend to be bolt on. larger tend to be v-band.

V-bands do make life easier

But the less boost you want potentially the more gate you need, but obviously turbos play a role there too.

38's should be ok though. But if there are no larger drop in replacements for the fitment on whatever 38's you go for....if you did need to upgrade it would be a lot of work.
So worth baring in mind whatever you opt for.

And ensure what you're buying are genuine...there are chinese copies of brand names everywhere.

turbosmart, tial, precision. All good quality brands.

I wouldnt buy Chinese myself, but there are a lot of guys in the US using some with good success.
