Boost pipes

Okey dokey,
Just about to order some pipes to plumb in my intercooler and turbos but here's my question.
The outlet from my turbos are 2" and the intercooler is 2 1/2", do I step up in diameter at the intercooler or straight after the turbos?
I'm aware that the volume change will introduce a change in velocity and a minor pressure drop but shall ikeep the drop in one place? Biggertubes mean a better velocity profile and easier flow but smaller pipes give a more turbulent flow ( despite common belief is good for for ed induction, you get a flatter profile and less molecules stuck to the tube walls)
I'm pretty sure it's 6 of 1 and 1/2 dozen of the other. Anyone had any experience with this?
