4.6 RV8 with Holley 390. Do I need a fuel pressure regulator?

Post by rich112 »

Holley 390 fed from a Holley pump mounted at the back next to the fueltank.

No return feed.

Should there be a fuel pressure regulator?

Depends on the pump, and what sort of pressure it can output, and what sort of pressure the carb can handle before you overpower the floats/needle valve

In general....I'd say it makes sense to have one regardless unless the pump has some sort of internal regulation or limitation.

It's a red label holley pump.

Had a read of the info on the Holley site, seems these are fine without a regulator...

I have noticed that despite replacing the two fibre washers on the carb inlet valve, it still leaks on startup, so was thinking the pressure might be too high. Seems to stop once the motor is running.
