Crank pulley

Post by DaveEFI »

Pal has got a very stuck crank pulley on an SD1. Needed to be removed to replace the oil seal. Broke the pulley when using a puller. Any ideas why? Says the oil seal was replaced only a few years ago - and it came on and off easily then. Bolt seemed to be at a normal torque - ie pretty tight.

How's he trying to remove it ? puller ? hammer ? other ?

Is the keyway still intact ? pulley been loose and fretting/welded to the crank ?

I got the bolt out easy with the rattle gun. The pulley didn't want to budge. In the end I put a drift in behind it (sump off), really close to the centre where it has some meat and give it a few taps, then turned it and repeated. Eventually it moved and then slide off. No point in putting any force on the outside of the pulley as its so thin, it will just bend.
