Hi all,
Hope I'm posting my question in the right section… I have recently acquired a 1978 Range Rover Classic with V8. I assumed it was a 3.5 l, but the engine number tells me otherwise. It reads CR 8.13:1 38D… A, which would mean it is a factory 3.9 litre engine from 1988 onwards. But what does suffix A mean?
Regards,
Richard

Re: engine number suffix
From the official Land Rover V8 engine rebuild manual.
Engine Numbers without suffix B
Uses an external gear oil pump driven by the distributor drive shaft. The oil pump gears are housed in the timing cover and oil pressure relief valve and warning light switch are fitted to the oil pump cover.
Engine Numbers with suffix B
The oil pump is driven by the crankshaft. The oil pump is integral with the tming cover which carries the oil filter, oil pressure relief valve and oil pressure switch.
So if you have a A suffix, your engine has a dizzy driven oil pump.
