Exhaust maifold Range Rover 4.0 v8

Post by mhalls »

I have an issue with getting a good seal between the exhaust manifold & head on the right hand bank of my v8. I have a continuous slight blow. The manifold has been removed and refaced & refitted with the standard metal gaskets. is their a better type gasket i can fit? Also i cannot use exhaust paste as the next joint on the exhaust contains the Cat.

Maybe stack up a few exhaust gaskets?

Chris.

Plenty of composite manifold gasket types available as well as the tin ones. Just ebay search and dozens come up.

Have you checked the manifold face with a straight edge to see if it is even remotely flat?

You may need to have it machined or file it to a reasonable tolerance!

Yes Ian the manifold has been sent to a machine shop & has had the faces machined perfectly flat.

At least some SD1 V8 weren't fitted with any gaskets at all between head and manifold.
