Sorry for redirecting an old post, but was this ever answered?

I have just bought a Westfield with the same 46AxxxxxxA engine number.

I’m told it’s a 3.9 and the car was a factory build. Is it possible that they used a new engine rather than a donor hence the difference prefix?

Well, it could be! 3.9 and 4.0l are both 3947cc's with a 3.7" bore. The 4.6l also has the 3.7" bore, so you could build up a 4.6l block into a 3.9l engine if you wanted to.

What does the engine look like externally, does it have 14 or ten bolt heads, cross bolted mains?
