Deck plate hone????

Post by DaviesDJ »

Hi guys - bit of a debate on (chatting with more earlier)

Deck plate honing

On Friday at Wards we were examining blocks post deck plate hone- and found no change in diameter or ovality while the deck plate was on or once it was removed (both of approximate ovality 2 1/10th of a thou)

Surely if there was an actual function of this when he engine is not torqued down there would be a slightly greater ovality.

Also some pre-honed new blocks that were deck honed at the factory shows very little ovality - and these tiny measures are so variable with temperature anyway.

It's a bit like line honing - it has been show. That the corkscrew like flex of the block under load makes taking the last few te the of clearance irrelevant. As long as it turns with one hand easily when the crank is torqued then your fine- the flex in the block and the fact that the crank floats on a film of oil make any further reduction in friction insignificant.

Opinions guys???

Spent so much on trial and error!
