Rover V8 EFi development/prototype engine?

I bought a 3.5 V8 engine which has a 20A prefix (3.5 EFi aussie 1982 - 87 Sd1 spec) but all production engines numbers I have seen end with an A, added to that it is number 00005. The engine seems to be devoid of casting dates (unusual) except the rocker arms which are 1980, was wondering if anyone had come across anything similar or if this was a possibly a development engine (usually at least first 20+ engines of a run are used for testing & development) anyone any ideas?
