The electronics engineer in me says you should either twist the two wires comming from the Dizzy to the Ignition module together or use screened cable. I used this when extending the wiring to one of those modules:

You only earth the screen at one end.

Hi..

Just wonder are all those modules better than OE unit? I just think that if Accel, mallory, Petronix are slightly better than the " Replaces units" witch are in list?

I dont see any value in purchasing a performance variant - if such a thing really exists?
Those 4 pin modules are used in the chevy HEI dizzy and they produce a pretty decent spark.
Are you going to be revving the engine much over 5500 rpm?

Yes.. 6500rpm is a red line..
My Oe unit is proken, and i have to start my 5,2L stage 4 engine soon, and i need new module anyway..
Also 2nd reason why i need this module is.
I want to eliminate all fauls away from new engine when i made first start. Before i buy megajolt sparkink system or Haltech E6X..
So this unit will service about couple of month? + next it wiil service my 3,5efi offroader witch is rev max 5500-6000rpm?

Ps. i have got Bosch red coil, and i think are OE ignition unit suitable to use? So thats why i think performance module is better?

I agree, in that I don't know that a 'performance' amp will actually make any difference to coil output. These amps have been used in tens of millions of American cars so are cheap and plentiful over there, and for the price you could order a couple of different types. Do a google on them and see what the various performance forums say about them.

Google say:
Performance module will give +7-8Amp output to coil, and std Hei module will give 4-5Amp output to coil.
std module give "good" spark approx 4500rpm (worses 3000rpm) and some corvette module will give approx 5000rpm.. Over that they will resist current too mutch. Because std engine peak power is usually approx 4500rpm so they dont need better spark over 4500rpm.. As std Rover 3,5-3,9-4,2 Efi peak power is approx 4650rpm?

Performance module will give good spark up to 7000-8500rpm.. even 10000rpm if use MSD race module..
price.
std hei. cheapest: Marelli: 10£ up to Bosch 643£ (with my local Bosch dealer)
performance hei. cheapest proform: 21£ up to +200£ (MSD) what i found..
I look at accel performance parts and they will cost approx 45£. And ususally std valeo or delco module cost approx +30£ what i ask my local dealer some prices..
so 15£ ain´t too mutch..?

Cheapest is not usually good, but ain´t most expensive..

It all very well having big fat sparks at high revs (or any other revs) but don't forget that the timing of the spark is mega important if you want to produce decent BHP! :D

The standard Rover timing figures are very conservative to put it mildly.

One other thing is that when you up the spark voltage the standard distributor and especially the cheap replacement blue caps and rotor arms are beyond their capability and this can produce lots of problems.

If its just for getting a new engine up and running I think I would use a standard amp as your not going be running it up to the redline anyway.

i will run it to redline.. I have to setup my fuel mixture first, then i will buy megajolt ignition system.. :D this will take couple of weeks or month, depending how busy i got at work?

Hmm.. just realise that MSD6AL ignition box will also fit my dizzy? without original Hei module? My friend has got 2nd hand unit.. Have to chat with him..

Fitted one of these modules as a replacement to the module on the side of the dizzy and the car would not idle until we fitted a coil with a resistance of less than 2 ohms !

With a 12V Lucas sport coil 3.5 ohm it would run at higher revs but not idle - same with another 12V high power coil - fitting an old intermotor coil at 1.3 ohms it ran and idled but the best running was with a 0.8 ohm lucas coil

Any suggestions as to why this would be the case?

At the time I didnt think to check the voltage at the coil but as the wiring is new and the battery is also brand new I dont have any doubt that its good but will be checking.

Hi Eliot, Would you please explain why you recommend twisting wires or screened cable for idots like me who haven't a clue when it comes to electronics! Also what is the little resistor for on the other wires?

Its to prevent Interference or/noise from the HT side effecting the signal coming from the VR sensor.

Yep I know what's in the box, snake oil, smoke, and mirrors! :D

I guess it might be of some use for the advance/retard feature if you use petrol and LPG but other than that I don't think that its worth the money. THIS IS JUST MY OPINION!!

I'm sure that people either on this forum or the Cob forum have reported that it has made no difference. Of course after spending a fair bit of dosh on something you can sometimes convince yourself that it has made a difference! :D
