Programmable Dizzy

Post by stevieturbo »

This unit ( the name anyway ) came up on another forum recently.

First I've heard of them myself, but might be an option for some looking a "modern" electronic dizzy that can be tuned.

Just for information, as said, I know nothing about them myself.

Not keen on the idea. The most troublesome parts of a dizzy are the cap and rotor arm. And then we can add in slop in the drive to the dizzy.

Unless you insist in things looking standard (which that dizzy doesn't anyway) a wasted spark system is better and far far more reliable. More work to install, but then you can also situate the electronics away from heat.

And many people simply do not want to do that or a proper CNP system, hence this is an option for them retaining a dizzy.

Not that difficult to lock a dizzy and use an external ECU to map it. And have vacuum advance too. For less cost than that one.

Admittedly not a 123 dizzy for a Rover but my 123 Dizzy does not have a rotor or cap - still has a shaft that rotates to drive the electronics inside - just has wires going from the dizzy to wasted spark coil packs.

But then even with a normal dizzy my car will run with no cap or rotor.
