Why would this be wired like this?

Post by rich112 »

Finally traced the wire from a temp sender, mounted in the inlet manifold. It goes direct to the fusebox +12v supply...

Also traced what is either an oil pressure switch or pressure sender. It goes to an empty spade terminal behind the glovebox....

Neither discoveries sound entirely satisfactory!

Indeed!

The oil pressure warning light especially! I had an 'issue' with the oil pressure relief valve when I got the car, which a big red light on the dash might have helped save some damage to the motor!

Question is, what did the previous guy think he was wiring into the fusebox 12v supply? They must have mistaken the grey/green from the temp sender for some other wire, which is probably meant to have +12v on it. And why have a pressure sender and not connect it to anything...

At least I have got some of the eiring under control now and I can sort it out.

I often scratch my head when I look at the wiring in my car. Then I remember that I was the idiot who did it like that.
