P5b with SD1 Distributor - Help !!

Post by MarkAnders »

Hi

I have a Rover P5b with what appears to be a Rover SD1 Lucas 35DE8 distributor. I am looking for a part number, or somewhere that sells would be even better, a condenser that is bolted to the outside of the distributor. Hopefully I have attached a photograph of the condenser that I need.

Any help would be much appreciated !

Thanks
Mark

Don't think SD1 has a condenser, thought that was on points type only.

Its strange because I thought the same...but the Lucas 35DE8 distributor doesn't have any points, and yet it has a condenser (in the picture) bolted on the side that I believe is the offending article ! However, finding one is proving impossible....

Have you tried Rimmer Bros, they certainly have replacement distributors and parts thereof

Silly question - does it work without it?

Electronic ignition doesn't need a 'condenser' in the same way as points as there is no spark at the points to tame.

Was thinking that too, maybe just put there on an electronic distributor to look "period correct".
Or maybe distributor is a points & condenser type which has been converted to electronic internals and condenser left in place.

John Craddock just sent me a catalog of genuine lucas parts, there is a condenser listed as lucas part number DCB101C
Or landrover part RTC3472LUCAS . It is not quite the same as your pic but should do the same thing, it does bolt on. Any condenser should work anyway.
