Range Rover Loom multi-pin plug and socket

Can anyone please give some information about the circular plug and socket that I have had cut out of a Range Rover? This is a two piece plug and socket with a screw together locking ring and I want to try and re-pin it for use on my conversion project (putting a P38 Range Rover engine into a TR7 for rallying/racing purposes).
How do you get the circular pins out? I have already tried the small tubular tool that slips over the pin, but no amount of pushing seems to release the pins. If I knew what type of pins they are, then perhaps I can find out where to buy replacements and how they recommend removal.
I also need to find a new plug for the crank sensor at the back of the engine. Can anyone tell me where to buy these from?

OK, I can tell you a few things about those plugs!
1. They seem to be known as BMW plugs, dunno why
2. You can get the pins out of the ''vehicle' plug. You have to rotate the release / locking ring anti-clockwise. I made a tool for this from a bit of copper water pipe with two lugs sticking out. Once you have done this, then you can release them with a bit of tube.
3. They cannot be purchased for love nor money. I would love to buy a few, but in spite of much searching, I have never found them.

Would it not be better to replace the whole plug/socket?

Not really. With the 'Thor' engine, there are two multiplugs you have to 'tickle' and then the whole engine is self contained.
One of them is quite easy, but the round one you have to get a bit cut off a P38 main body loom.

It means you can keep a stock engine loom which is quite nice.

Ah, fair enough, couldn't tell if both ends were cut off.

Thanks for the replies guys.

It's helped to confirm that it doesn't seem it's popular to mess about with this type plug, so pins probably won't be readily available and best to look at other options then long term.

For a quick fix and to get the engine up and running with the Emerald ECU, I think I will solder up both ends of the cut wires to the existing looms, then do something permanent later.

Lots of circular multi-pin connectors on the market which can be bulkhead mounted killing two birds with one stone. Can be aviation spec too- so rather better than the average car connector. Look at RS and CPC, etc.
