Can you use a normal 30a relay for fuel pump

And again it depends what relay you were using in the first place.


But do be aware, with automotive relays there are 2 typical pin configurations, so ensure you're swapping like for like in terms of pin numbers.

For some reason they are different...and will not like being fitted incorrectly, but the physical pins are in the same place ! But the connections are different internally.

One relay is a simple on off which ois what you want , the other when it switches to off also goes to earth so you end up with a dead battery

If you are talking Lucas injection where the two relays (main and pump) are twin output types, yes. Only the main relay needs to be a twin output one. The more common single pole changeover 5 pin is fine for the pump, as there is no connection to 87, the normally closed contact.
