EDIS 8 and Discovery 2 V8 Coil Packs
I have a set of new coil packs to use on my RV8 build which with have MS3 and EDIS 8.
The coils fit a 95 on Mondeo, Escort or Fiesta - of those only the Mondeo was sold here and are virtually non existant. The issue is that these coil packs used an odd center pin contact arrangement (well odd here) so only OEM leads will fit and are not long enough to fit the RV8 from the rear.
So I can use easily sourced leads etc - does anyone know if the standard coil packs are compatible with EDIS 8.
Thanks
Garry

You can buy the Ford style plug lead connectors new. Or find used leads and remove them from that. They are a very well made connector and can be re-used with care. That approach allows you to make up plug leads exactly right for your set-up.
As regards using non EDIS coils with EDIS, I dunno.
Although I'm using EDIS with MS2 and it's fine, the installation was done many years ago. I'd not use EDIS with MS3. MS3X provides 8 logic level coil drivers so you could use LS1 etc active coils.
[EDIT]
Just seen your post on the MS forum with a pic of the coils. My comments applied to the earlier type of coil which I'm using. I dunno if connectors are so readily available for the later type

Thanks - I want something I can easily buy local if I have issues and the Ford special ends are not common here - if I had known of this issue I would never have got these coils.
I want the engine to be running before the MS3 is installed so the Edis for the the moment and once I have issues sorted I plan to then use the MS drivers with something like the LS1 coils that are cheap here.
At this stage I am thinking of ditching the MS all together - without local support it is just too hard and surprises keep cropping up - there are just too many conflicting views on the forums on how things are done - thinking of going back to a dizzy and using 4CUIX for the injection - yep engine might be down a few kw but is a lot easier.
However I will see how I go with this issue first.
Cheers

Basically early and late type.
In the UK the early type is the most common. I used a pair of early coils and got a bracket for the pair from Trigger Wheels. My brother had broken a couple of Escorts and sent me the coils and plug leads. I used the connectors from those plug leads to make my own custom leads. I got new 12v connectors for the coils
There are always going to be niggles engineering what is really a one off conversion.
If it is difficult to get the later plug leads, buy some earlier coils and sell off your later ones. As far as I know the EDIS module will be happy with either.

I get my leads made up by performance leads, who seem to have changed their name to FLA manufacturing.

Originally had some made about 10 years ago and i've bought a new set from them last summer. They have the correct connectors for both types of edis pack and make them to order and are pretty reasonable on cost.

Could you not use the original dizzy to run in the cam?
Are the earlier EDIS coils available easily where you are? And suitable leads for that?
Other way might be to fit the coils where the plug lead runs are shorted. Mine are mounted to the alternator bracket.

The engine does not have a dizzy or the ability to run one without major modification - hence the use of edis to do this - if I could be guaranteed that MS will work straight off then there is no need for Edis but there is not a big chance of that and the cam manufacturer specifically says that the new cam shaft must not be subject to extended cranking like you would do when setting up a new injection system.DaveEFI wrote:Could you not use the original dizzy to run in the cam?
EDIS is not used here so is only on imported cars.
I might just make up some sort of adaptor.
If I had my time again on this project - I would not have gone MS - just too much adapting and mucking around - just should have used the standard Discovery 2 system and just had the ECU debricked so it will run independent to the rest of a Disco - but I am where I am.
Thanks for the input - I will muddle through - I just want to get the engine runnning and then fine tune the rest.
