Which plug leads for me?

Post by dbv8 »

I am ready to order a new set of leads. I will need to make them to length myself due to my set up.

Its a 4.6 running megasuirt2 with Ford Gen 2 coil packs.

I need quality leads that will ensure i get the best spark i can when running nitrous.

Recommendations please.

I'm using a set from www.simonbbc.com on my Rover 3.5 distributor, they seem ok so far, the only downside is the colour (unless you like blue). They may just sell you the lead if thats all you want?

I have gen2 EDIS coils on my P6 - I made the ends up using new cable I got from polevolt or somewhere similar.

My coilpacks all came with original Ford leads, so I simply reused those.

With a squirt of silicon spray you can get the boots off easily and then gently prise the terminals open, fit to new leads and recrimp.

*edit - I did fit new terminals and boots to the plug ends though.

Any good quality lead will be more than adequate as long as they are in good condition.

I used this :-

http://www.thetoolboxshop.com/0-961-58- ... r-828.html

I obtained some genuine Ford EDIS plug leads from a scrappy and carefully removed the terminals and boots - they seem to be very well made and surviive well. Although you can buy new. I'm just a tight arse.

I found a BNC crimp tool ideal to crimp the connectors. They are easily available so cheap(ish). The 'proper' crimp tool likely costs a fortune. But I already had the BNC one anyway.

Do note you must use the correct suppressor cable with EDIS. Or so I've been told. Not sure if driving EDIS coils direct from an MS, though, using MS drivers.

I use Blue Max Spiral from Real steel. Plug ends are pre made (135 degrees for rover v8) and you cut to length and fit your own coil ends. £70

I used these people some time ago to make me a set of custom length leads, had a choice of colours, boot angle and coil-pack type connector. good value too, if I remember correctly http://www.performanceleads.co.uk/
