Hi
I wasn't aware they were now recommending the VR input for hall systems. We did talk about it years ago, but decided that the VR input was the hardest bit to get right, so kept it using the opto isolator. Personally I dont build mine that way, I always use the opto input for anything hall related, its much easier to get working.

Think it's to do with sequential getting more common. The VR now used for all crank sensors, opto for cam. To keep things simple. Ish.

Think also the VR input can cope with a higher frequency. Hall on a 60-2 might push the 2N25 a bit.
