Help identifiying an LT77 2wd box

Post by JC. »

Hi,
I would like to determin what gear set a particular LT77 gearbox has.

The owner has sent me some of the numbers...

"On the casting it has RKC 0558 then V334"
Also the numbers 3406 bsk 1 v 5433
On the RH side of the box it has R1 28 punched in a circle.

I dont think any of these numbers help me identify what it is :/
All I do know is it is comming off the back of an O series engine.

Can anyone shed any light onto what it is?

Thank in advance,

JC.

Additionally, the box is reputed to have been rebuilt as has the engine that it is attached to. The engine has definately been worked on - the owner has paperwork to prove this.

There is a brand new clutch mounted to the O series. Would this be suitable for re-using the friction plate and clutch plate on a V8 since it hasnt been used at all? I already have an apropriate release bearing.

Rescued this off the old forum,

17A is from 2300 2600 rover SD1 never seen the code 17C before

Gear box identification

G16A SD1 2000 (Could be 4 speed)

G17A SD1 2300/2600 5 speed

G19A SD1 3500 SE/VP 5 speed

G22A SD1 3500 Police spec 5 speed

G23A SD1 2600 Police spec 5 speed

G26A SD1 2400 Diesel 5 speed

G27A SD1 2000 Later model 5 speed

G28A SD1 Vitesse 5 speed

G30A Sherpa Range (and to be avoided)

Possibly the one may be a g28a, which makes it a vittesse box.

I have just read the bit, "O series" assuming he has not bought the box yet, Check there is a 5th gear, some base models ie the rover 2000 never had a 5th gear fitted,
Apart from that all I can find in my factory book ratio wise, is
1st, 3.321-1
2nd, 2.087-1
3rd, 1.396-1
4th, 1.000-1
5th, 0792-1
so I assume the boxes were all the same ratios. Other than the sherpa, which had a much shorter 1st.
The clutch is not interchangerble, as a 8.5" is fitted to the 2000, 9" to the 23/2600, and a 9.5" to the 3.5
also the master cyl bore on the2.0,2.3,2.6 models was .937" and the 3500.625"but the slave cyl size was common.

if your mate is having the whole car the axle ratios were quite good for the boy racers being 3.9-1 and the V8 being 3.08-1, Im sure somebody will be intrested in the axle.
