If it's just a regular seal, get the measurements and buy a seal

Some seals are bi-directional, some directional, so take a note of that as a trans output shaft tends to be anti-clockwise rotation.

Thanks Guys.

Managed to get under the car and get the numbers off the seal.

They are TC 35 55 9 and TT0 E509. Shaft is 39.9mm diameter.

Thanks for the information where to get the seal.

Mark.

often the numbers will be measurements. 35mm ID, 55mm OD and 9mm deep.

That would make the 39.9mm shaft size seem very odd for that seal.

I have ordered a new seal.

The size of the output shaft is 34.9mm. Not 39.9mm as I previously stated

What method do you guys use to get the old seal out? I simply use a srew driver, deform the seal and lever it out.

Is there another way?

Thanks Mark.

That makes more sense.

This is a fairly typical tool for removal...and as long as there is room they do work superbly.

but a screwdriver is an option too, or some might try and screw a screw into the seal and pull out out with that

Didnt think of the screw idea. Seems simple enough and may be safer, dont want to damage the case.

Thanks for the idea.

As long as you're careful with that tool, they really are superb. I've never actually tried the screw method myself.

Thought I would post this so someone can learn from my mistake.

I assumed the prop seal was leaking, so I ordered a couple of seals.

Jacked car up, made safe on stands. Removed under tray to expose prop, no leak!! Further investigation found the drip was from the bush I made when I took the speedo drive out.

So a bigger "O" ring later and some sealant, all seems ok.

Assumption is the mother of all cock ups.
