Hi folks, I am looking to have a ford 8.8 explorer axle shortened to fit under my ford capri and I would like to know if anybody has had this done and what it cost.
I know that it depends on what further work you want done to the axle with regards to brake set up and welding new perches on etc but the basic shortening cost is what I am after.

Depends who does it, and how they did it.

I lengthened my tubes DIY so cost was minimal apart from new shafts. But I'd have replaced shafts anyway.

If you wanted it professionally done, it could easily cost a few hundred.

Likewise I just made brackets to mount calipers to go over the existing 4 bolt flange on the end and had some custom discs/bells made up.

Cost not too much overall.

had mine done by Andy Robinson Race Cars
think it came to about 1k (was 9yrs ago) but I had strange pro street 28 spline shafts supplied for it and converted to 9" bearing ends to do away with the shaft C clips

All in all that's not a bad price at all.

I just use bolt on c-clip elims on my 8.8" ends. They're not fantastic, but they do work. The Moser ones I used to use were cheaper but always leaded a little, they used roller bearings.
I'm using Mark Williams stuff now which uses a big taper bearing and doesnt leak. A bit more expensive though.

If I was to do it all again, the 9" ends etc would be the better option.

Although If I was to do it all again....I'd opt for an IRS.

Following what Tony had Andy do, would make a lot of sense
