Hey Guys - I've got a G17A 287 40 B gearbox.

It came from a 2300/2600 SD1. I know it's not perfect but will this box be okay for my MGB V8 Project. Using a 3.5 SD1?

Many thx

Perfectly adequate - you should have no worries about using it.

Great, thx for the response. Just need to make sure it's a decent box now. Hard to really tell I guess when it's on the workbench.

Aspira, if you have no idea as to the condition of the gearbox, get it rebuilt. Unless you're doing some mounting trickery it's engine and gearbox out together with the MGB which is a right royal pain. Better to know you've got a good correctly built gearbox from day one. TM Transmissions are competitive for an exchange gearbox.

You're probably right, I don't want to pull the gearbox once its in. I've been trying to work out how you can test it but it seems impossible without stripping it down which isn't a job I fancy. Thx, I'll try TM Transmissions and see how much it might cost.

IIRC, only early ones.
