Just wondering how difficult it is to rebuild the rear axle out of my 7 V8?
It's the 5 speed unit and I want to fit a Quaife LSD.
Any thoughts?
Cheers!

Hi
the issue with all axles is setting the mesh of the pinion into the crown wheel and that is down to being able to get the pattern on the teeth mesh interpreted correctly and moving the CR left to right and the pinion in and out in response. There are loads of tutorials for ford 9" axles, GM 12 bolts and various Dana and Jag units on the web, they all are set on the same principles and are fundamentally the same as the Tr unit. it is a case of working steadily and systematically.
best regards
Mike

poppet valves rule!
Hi Markus,
The worse bit is the fact you cant get the collaspesible spacer for the pinion pre load adjustment and the huge spanner you need to undon on the pinion. I made up a 'special tool' to hold the pinion still whilst undoing this nut
The rest of it is like setting up most other rear ends, how easy it is depends on your experience.
Cheers John
