Range Rover / Sherpa sumps are the same. They're much deeper than the car ones. I've never looked inside a car one, but I guess the pickup pipe / filter will be different?

I thought I'd put this one to rest. I opened up a spare ECU this evening. Here's the circuit:

I can't see for the life of me what putting another 5.6K outside the ECU will do - why not change R101 to 15K?

Given your input it may simply be to protect the wiring and the amplifier from a short circuit on the Efi loom or beyond, in the remote possibility that there is a short to earth between the inline resistor and the ECU pin 1. If that happened with the resistor in = no problemo. BUT with the resisto...

We've had this conversation before. I can't remember the exact details now, but I took apart an ECU and traced the input circuit for the coil -ve feed. At the time I concluded that the resistor didn't do anything useful, so I've been running without it for 27000 miles. The input protection circuit i...

I use a BMW shifter in my Landie. I just toured the scrapyard looking for cars with the ZF (BMW's being as common as muck, so a good starting point!), and found one that looked OK.

Make sure you use the Range Rover front cover as the SD1 is different.

But the blocks are identical.

You'll find that the shift pattern & maximum engine speed won't be quite right for the Rover engine, but it'll be close enough! Ideally you want the governor from a V8 so at least the max engine speed won't be set too high. My Volvo governor gives the WOT upshift at around 6K which is a tad high. Ch...

The engine height will be determined by the intake system rather than the front cover (assuming electric fan). I believe the MGB inlet was the lowest standard system, but it was also crap. There have been discussions on this subject before - hopefully somebody else will say what the lowest aftermark...

It would, but there might be a tradeoff to be had if some of the possible benefits listed by the OP turned out to be real, which I think was the reason why he asked.

Flapper doesn't do that. It sounds like the coolant temp sensor to me. Ramon Albans site has loads of tech info. I thought he had the complete factory diagnostics procedure but I can't find it. I did find this though: http://www.vintagemodelairplane.com/pages/Rover_Technical/EfiComponents01.html Chr...

I've seen somewhere a list of BHP figures for the various RV8's in their guises over the years. That would be a good place to start.

I can't remember where I've seen it though!

IN theory you could just swap in a distributor from a Range Rover (or SD1) and use it's electronic igntion setup. But I have a feeling that the distributor shaft has a different fitting on the bottom (which drives the oil pump) between electronic ignition Range Rovers and points P6's. If you swapped...

Not really. You could get the block top-hat linered, but it would have a 3.7" bore which is too big for your 3.5litre pistons. Also the crankshaft won't fit as the 4.6 litre has 2.5" journals, and the 3.5litre has 2.3" journals. The front cover won't have a distributor (or place to fit one), so you'...
