The airflow still need to be swirling when it picks up the fuel squirt from the injector to get a better mix of fuel air or else the rich mix of fuel created at the point of the squirt will carry into the combustion chamber - a swirling air flow will mix the fuel better. In my view traditional porti...

Running in Cam - 4.6 RV8

My 4.0 RV8 that I have taken out to a 4.6 is in the truck and will soon be ready for first start. For the start and cam run in I will be using the 3.5 carbs and manifold and using the default EDIS 8 10 degrees BTDC. I need to run the engine for 20 - 30 minutes at 2000rpm to run in the Cam and the de...

I am not going to go a big power 4.6 engine as it is going in a slow lumbering big 4wd so I have not looked at getting the inlet manifold deburred but the ports in the heads were a bit rough so I just had the dags taken out rather than a full on port and polish. My local engine builder was able to d...

I thought that hole in your first pic is the hole the dipstick comes out of in the sump.

The tube on the side of the casting in pic three is where the dip stick goes through from the hole at the rear of the engine number pad at the top centre of the passenger side of the block.

I have 4.0 Low comp pistons in my 4.6 and the compression ratio comes out at about 9.2:1.

Also note that 4.0 pistons have gudgeons that have a thinner wall than 4.6 pistons so you would be advised to change these over from the 4.6 pistons for your build.

Re: Discovery 2 4.6 v8 build help!

Obviously looking for torque more than horse power. Closer to 300 hp would be good. I know the Thor inlet is restrictive for horse power so making everything else flow better I'm thinking may be a waste unless that is improved also. Any help would be appreciated! Tony you say you are looking for to...

Crow Cams in Campbellfield Vic make various 4.6 cams - they have a towing cam that provides best torque in the mid range but still good lower down. I have one in my 4.6 as I also need higher torque in the midrange. You can order the 4.6 cam with a dissy drive on the end. Also you can order cams to y...

Not sure this helps but is this layout similar to what you have (sorry the engine is in the truck so hard to get a good pic) http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e334/gazzz21/Forum%20Posts%20Album/My%20Truck%20Serp%20layout_zpsluacsn4y.jpg I have used the standard 4.0 alternator and aircon mount. Looks the same as the 4.0 crank pulley that I have. I used this trigger wheel from Megasquirt for V8s http://www.megasquirt-v8.co.uk/ms_thor.php but it does require a little bit of machining on the back side to provide a flat face for the wheel to bolt up (only needs two bolts). As mentioned the pul...

Why go from the standard 944 engine for a RV8 3.5. With equivalent level of tune the 944 engine is more powerful (less torque) and has lots of scope for improvement.

Just curious.

Being a mid 90s American Ford V8 basic ignition would have been provided by EDIS 8 controlled by an ECU for both ignition and injection. As such there should be an appropriate trigger system for EDIS 8 and the ECU - so the lot should be easily converted to MS as a replacement for the ECU.

If I can - a side but related question? How is important is it to have a bypass? I am putting together a serpentine Thor 4.6 but am using a modified 3.5 thermostat housing on the Thor manifold - as such it does not have the 4.6 thermostat pictured above nor the s pipe linking the inlet manifold to t...
