Re: Rover V8 10.5cr & 8.13cr Overlap
As a general statement compression ratio with the RV8 is determined by the pistons used, not the block. Clearly mods such as shaving heads and block will make small differences and there was a small change in head design with later engines that made a small change but to change compression ratio you...

Re: E10 Fuel Detonation Overheating
What they said - E10 has a higher octane rating than the equivalent grade of normal unleaded fuel so the chances of detonation are reduced - the answer lies in correct ignition timing and the cooling system.

Re: PCV valve for RV8
So the general layout is basically the same as a Thor 4.6 - why not buy the little plastic oil fume removing device that I indicated above, put it in the steel outlet pipe of the drivers side rocker cover and then just run the pipe to the same place as you do now - a thor did not need an extra pcv v...

Re: PCV valve for RV8
That item has nothing to do with a 4.6 as the 4.6 does not have a PCV as such. I know nothing of your modified system but I do know a little of the 4.6 crankcase ventilation system. Air intake for the 4.6 crankshaft is taken from just in front of the throttle body where it sucks clean filtered air f...

Re: Sleeving down a 3.9 to 3.5?
You can put a 3.5 timing cover etc on a 4.6 with a different cam shaft so it looks like a 3.5. As far as liners go yes - just take the liners out from a 3.9 and put in the 3.5s - not sure if this is the same for a 4.0 as technically it is a different engine - but as has been asked why would you want...

Re: Programmable Dizzy
Admittedly not a 123 dizzy for a Rover but my 123 Dizzy does not have a rotor or cap - still has a shaft that rotates to drive the electronics inside - just has wires going from the dizzy to wasted spark coil packs. PA070146.JPG But then even with a normal dizzy my car will run with no cap or rotor....

Re: 3.9 efi problem
As above I understand the ecu is told if it’s auto or manual via pin 34 and either 12v, 0v or in the car if a manual via a 510ohm resistor to earth. Mine is the latter. Cheers Thats not my understanding - I was told that the ECUs are different and have different part numbers - but as I said I have ...

Re: 3.9 efi problem
Coming late to this - do you have an auto or manual ECU? The manual ECU has speed input and when the ECU detects no speed it goes to the idle program - without speed input the ECU will still idle the engine but it can be a bit rough. The auto ECU does not have the speed input so goes to a nice idle ...

Re: Rover V8 Engine Numbers Updated:
That is not the original stamping so probably not the original number. When the blocks were stamped when being made it would have been in a "dot matrix" style and have the compression ratio stamped as well - it looks as if the number you have has been manually stamped possibly after the top of the b...

Re: Cooling Advice - RV8 4.6
Thanks you make very good points about the 16" fan - that is why there are also additional 10" fans as well, so I think with all going at full blast I will have enough air going through the radiator. I have a V12 Jag that runs two 12" fans as standard and even in bumper to bumper traffic on hot days...

Re: Cooling Advice - RV8 4.6
I don't have the cows udder system - just the standard old 3.5 thermostat housing system - I think I have the 82 degree thermostat - I reiterate that the basic cooling system is fine - just wanting to change from the engine driven fan.
Cheers

Re: Cooling Advice - RV8 4.6
Yes, I was thinking of UK weather!! If I lived where you do, I would throw absolutely everything at it, and have an overtemp alarm as well. Chris. I have what is called a TM4 Combo waterwatch system. It is a combined low coolant level alarm, temp display alarm - the temp alarm side of it does not m...

Re: Cooling Advice - RV8 4.6
Hi Ian - radiator is fine - is is just a matter of getting enough air through it with the new arrangement of the 4.6.

Re: Cooling Advice - RV8 4.6
Thanks for those comments have helped top focus my thoughts. I have to consider our very high summer temps and being offroad in low range climbing hills at high revs. I am going to use the 16" fan on the temperature controller as the main fan and keep the 10" pushers on a switch as a reserve. Thanks...

Cooling Advice - RV8 4.6
I have a Land Rover 101FC and have replaced the standard 3.5 with a 4.6 that does not have a dizzy so the timing cover etc is shorter than the 3.5 and the drive for the water pump is lower on the engine. This means the the engine driven fan is about 3" further back from the radiator and about 2" low...
