Re: water pump pulley - loose belt?
If the belt is incorrectly tensioned (slack) the alternator will protest way before the water pump i.e screaming its head off especially when a load is applied to the battery post starting or headlights heater on etc

Re: 3.9 later intermin Serp Engine project
X bolting not necessary IMO unless your building a balls out screamer or aiming for big power numbers , no need to change main caps on many 3.9 int blocks they already have the full width caps fitted block and caps just needing jigging and drilling for X bolting

Spartan fan here :nw they just work and no voltage offset issues like I had with my Innovate LM2 (even grounded in the same place as MS and splitting heater and sensor grounds) lots of glitches and freezing on initial purchase of the LM2 until about 2 firmware updates in :| but as a stand alo...

Re: stepper motor - alternatives
Bosch 2 or 3 wire get my vote older Volvo Saab BMW GM etc , if you run a big cam ign scatter spark dialing in lots of advance etc wont be enough for warm up so some kind of ICV is essential in some instances, I agree with Dave the Hotwire stepper is a pain in the arse and often erratic in its action...

Re: Fuel pump.flow pressure
Lucas Hotwire stock pressure is 2.5 BAR if your using just 2 BAR that may well be your misfire from an over lean AFR (dangerous for the motor)

Re: I've got a chatty engine.
Those bolts should be at least thread locked or preferably lock wired witnessed this problem more than I care to remember on the RV8 combination of heavy pick-up pipe and engine vibes all contributors to this issue with the result .... oil pressure woes

You have a 50/100 mile window approx post cam break-in to load up & scuff those rings in IMO after this things are a lot slower happening

Vauxhall/GM Siemens 1588 inj's are a good alternative available newer and have a superior spray pattern to the Lucas Hotwire disc style inj's , quite a few TVR Hotwire guys use them inc myself
