I have same carb and had a similar problem. The choke cable was sticking and holding some choke. When this happens, if you blip throttle does it return to normal idle? If so check the choke cable. This assumes you have a manual choke of course. If you have the automatic choke it might need adjusting...

You only need the three prong type if it is switching the pump directly. If it follows SD1 practice. The later version uses a standard single contact type and a relay. The single contact type should be cheaper and easier to find. Note if this is not an SD1 wiring harness, you'd normally add a diode...

The carb SD1 has a fuel pump cut off too. Operated by oil pressure. On the EFI, it is an inertia switch. Early carb SD1 used a 3 pin oil pressure switch which controlled the pump directly. Later ones a single contact switch and a relay. I've re-drawn the factory wiring diagrams in colour making the...

Have you got the Rover SD1 wiring diagram? That might show up a difference between how you have it wired, and how it should be wired. Chris. Hi, think that would be a red herring as the SD1 is normally Efi and my engine has carb conversion and is in a porsche 924. That said, I think the issue is wi...

Oil Pressure (safety) Switch - Rover v8 SD1 with Carb
Just finished off a load of rewiring on my car and as part of it decided to wire up the oil pressure safety switch (the one that cuts the fuel pump if your oil pressure drops to low). There was no wiring in place for the switch but the switch was present and the fuel pump relay had been jumpered (an...

mgbv8 - no worries mate I appreciate the input, I'm on a steep learning curve with this engine :? so the input is welcome. The fittings on the cap I made are 10mm ID and at least as big as the flame trap ID. On the catch can I have used the largest fittings it came with which are ID 12mm I think. At...

Hi Prophead, Where did you get the seal from and which one? There are 5 variants on Rimmer Bros website. Mine is an SD1 engine/kitcar. since the price varies from £4.60 to £18.70 I'm guessing there are some differences? Don't want to have to pull this apart again, ie. rad off, coolant everywhere......

Final mock up of the breather system
After a lot of research, and head scratching it is finally sorted. I ended up having to create my own cap for the left hand rocker cover because the TVR one was too tall. I separated the cone filter the car came with and used the base, into which I inserted a rubber grommet. Into this is inserted a ...

New Edelbrock Air cleaner
Just replaced the old (and way to small) Chrome Chevy air cleaner with this much more fitting Edelbrock performer one.

Finally got my solution for this. I didnt have clearance under hood for the same style of breather so have used an in line one as per landrover I think. This is then piped to an oil catch can as I want to minimised the amount of oil going back through the carb. The catch can in turn is connected to ...

hi, just been through this myself. Dont know your engine bay but if it is as tight as mine then you will have to remove rad to get to the nut and to pull the pulley assembly out. I managed to get the nut off by putting the car in high gear and chocking the rear wheels (handbrake on) and used large b...

Before you go off the deep end post a picture, Chances are it'll be OK but it's hard to tell just from a description. I would normally do that but am having a few problems posting pics. Looks like I might have been sent the oversize seal so am going to give it a go. If it works great if not I will ...

Clean the grooves, and fill with something like liquid metal,or a two pack alternative .Spin it up in a lathe, big drill and take off excess ! Or replace the seal with one of the over size ones especially made for worn pulleys. This is what I did, leak cured Looks like i will have to go down one of th...

It's no big deal to remove the pulley, so why not just try it and see if it leaks? All with some miles behind them do end up grooved - but the seal is springy so can cope with some wear. A cure would be to sleeve the existing pulley. Thanks for the reply. Removing the pulley is not a problem I agre...

Porsche 924 GT 8 Ball
Hi, I've made a few posts now so thought it about time to introduce the car. I have only owned it for about 10days so go easy on the critique of the engine bay  It's a porsche 924 with a GT body kit, many uprated suspension and drivetrain components from later 944 models, has roll cage and is ...
