Re: 3.5 9.75:1 Puffing blue smoke
The thing is I don't think that the standard 'old' valve guides can use any decent form of valve stem oil seal and using the umbrella type of seal is a total waste of time because they are useless. Would these be what Rimmers refer to as 'tap washer type' seals? From what I can ascertain these SD1 ...

Re: 3.5 9.75:1 Puffing blue smoke
My experience of worn RV8s is that if you do have piston etc wear, you're likely to get oil leaks through excess blow-by pressurizing the crankcase. So valve stem seals are the most likely. Which won't show up on a compression check. Thanks Dave. I think you are probably correct, no oil leaks but t...

Re: 3.5 9.75:1 Puffing blue smoke
You don't say what your valvetrain is, but if you have the old umbrella washers then they will have (broken up and) fallen off - completely normal for an old RV8 especially if you're running a bit hotter than usual road use. Does it puff a whiff of smoke on first start from cold? Standard SD1 heads...

3.5 9.75:1 Puffing blue smoke
I got the car back on the road a few weeks back after pretty much rebuilding everything except the engine, because I had no reason to mess with it. Anyway, to get my car finished up and to a show I used TripleQX 20/50 Premium mineral oil when I changed the oil (instead of waiting for delivery of my ...

Unfortunately the hose on the catch tank were too small diameter so it was trying to blow out of the little mushroom inlet. Shame as it was such a neat looking solution. I now have 2 TVR style oil / flame traps that screw into the top of the rocker covers, one on each side and have topped them with ...

Hi, Firstly, yes you can use the 4 barrel with the rv8. I have the 3.5 Vitesse engine in my Porsche 924 with an Edelbrock Performer intake manifold. As far as I can see the PCV port is pressed in, but mine is a hose attachment that I have capped, this is how they come out the box. I'm running a diff...

You may be able to fit the bush slightly less deep into the end of the crank and get a little extra support for the shaft . Interesting idea. Will need to check the clearance to the friction plate, maybe just a couple of mm will be enough. At the end of the day the 944 shaft was designed to fit int...

I wouldn't have thought so - it's not like it can go anywhere. Chris. That's what I was thinking but want to check. This is the first time I've done anything like this and its on a custom setup. It's a total ball ache getting the transmission out and into these cars with the engine and clutch up fr...

Spigot bearing (bush) and input shaft length
I have a Porsche 924 that has had an RV8 3.5 (SD vitesse I think) conversion done. As a result of a clutch issue I have the entire drive line out of the car. I have decided to replace the torque tube (drive shaft) and gearbox with those from a Porsche 944 because the shafts in the 924 are a) only ra...

Novice queation re Flywheel bolts
Finally getting close to reinstalling the clutch. The flywheel is back from machining, been refaced, lightened (from 14kg to 10kg) and balanced
Question:- Can I re-use the bolts for the flywheel or do they have to be replaced? (they look fine)?
Same question for the cover plate bolts?
