Re: TVR 350i Rebuild

I used the standard 3.9 cam in my SD1 EFI. Although the MegaSquirt helped the bottom end a great deal over the flapper injection. But it still does that 'lift up the skirts' feeling above about 3500 rpm.

Re: TVR 350i Rebuild

Surely on a TVR, you don't want a stump puller cam?

Re: Remote ignition module

Yes - a VR sensor generates an output when a magnetic material (steel etc) passes it. When this is a toothed wheel, it generates a signal similar to a sine wave (bit like AC) which varies in frequency and level with speed. The electronics have to be designed where to trigger on this signal, so usual...

Re: Remote ignition module

Two wires means most likely a VR sensor. Depending on the design of the electronics, the polarity may or may not matter. But you won't damage anything. If any signs of a misfire, swap them over. It would be safest to use a twin screened cable. This may be difficult to find at an auto cable supplier,...

Re: Remote ignition module

The third pin in very likely for a screen which would only be connected at one end, as it's also connected to ground - but you need to avoid current flow through it.

Re: Distributer / Vacuum advance screw size

I can say what it's not. It's not M3 or 4. M3.5 (13 amp socket fixing screws) does make a start, as do Lucas front indicator lens fixing screws from my SD1, which are UNC - something like 8-32. BA 4&6 don't fit either. So maybe 5BA?

Re: Help! Have I screwd up? Taking BW65 gearbox off.

Yes it might move slightly since only supported one side.

I read it as you were going to replace the box, TC still on the engine. That's when seals can get damaged. Not by fitting the TC to the box, off the car, so sorry.

Re: Help! Have I screwd up? Taking BW65 gearbox off.

The problem with this way is not getting it to fit, but the chances of damaging a seal.

Re: Fuel Air Mixture Wide Band System

With a lean mixture and low load, you can use more ignition advance. Both of which aid economy.

And richer than stoic produces more torque at low revs too.

If stoic was ideal under all conditions, a simple lambda sensor would suffice. Same as you have on a cat engine.

Re: Fuel Air Mixture Wide Band System

For best power, you'd normally go to something like 12.5:1. Best economy about 15.5:1. Assuming no catalytic converter to worry about.

Re: Fuel Air Mixture Wide Band System

My Rover SD1 originally had the Lucas 4CU injection. It went very well on full throttle and once the revs got up - but always felt a bit flat at low revs for a V8. And being an auto, using a lot of throttle would make it change down. It's something I'd also read on contemporary road tests. I fitted ...

Re: Fuel Air Mixture Wide Band System

With a distributor, the injection has no way of knowing which cylinder is firing, as all it gets is ignition firing pulses. But could trigger each time at the same spacing from the pulses. But then most will be two squirts alternating, so doubt it makes any difference in practice. Just why grouping ...

Re: Fuel Air Mixture Wide Band System

Yes, With fully sequential injection, you can trim the fuelling to each cylinder. And measure it individually, too. As you say, expensive. I'm still on batch injection. And don't run closed loop. But do have an AFR readout in the dash. Having two would be a pain. And really can't think where having ...

Re: Fuel Air Mixture Wide Band System

Can you explain what fault could cause one bank to run lean (or whatever)? One recent example posted on here. This would show up on dual wide band sensor system before checking things out. https://www.v8forum.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=15850 That was with carbs. Thing is that not only do two ...
