Thank you for your replies. The engine is a Land Rover service exchange 4.2 litre v8 full engine. Fitted with an intermediate front timing cover (crank driven oil pump and distributor) no oil cooler will be fitted. When I changed to an SD1 sump I smeared as many surfaces as I could with Graphogen pa...

New engine start up.
I bought a Land Rover exchange full engine about 10 years ago, it is now installed and will be started soon. I would like some recommendations, please, on the correct start up procedure and oil to use. Thought I would fill it with a basic cheap oil initially, remove all the plugs and turn it over un...

LT77 gearbox oil change.
Just changing my engine and have it and the gearbox removed from the car. I installed both 15 years ago, and now want to change the gearbox oil, as it is going back in with the new engine. I know that the gearbox takes 1.5 litres, do I just stick in that amount or should I wait until it is installed...

PM message stuck in Outbox!
I replied to a Forum members PM yesterday (text only, no pictures) and it seems to be stuck in my Outbox!
Have tried writing it again and sending it but it just replaces the original one in the Outbox. Checked my "Sent" messages and it is not there.
Any suggestions?

Hi shanecl, Does it matter? Surely the work involved is the same. I bought a new 4.2 tall engine about 8 years ago and have been slowly building it up ready to replace the 3.5 engine in the Stag. Just waiting for some matching to be done and then it is ready to go in. I have just replaced the front ...

Torquing up crankshaft pulley.
Have been changing the front timing cover on my Rover V8 to an intermediate one, and today i had to torque up the crankshaft pulley. Did a search on this forum to see how other people did it but could find no topic on it (i did not want to remove the starter motor). So i thought i would post how i d...

Thank you for your replies. The serpentine intermediate cover does not have a heater connection stub on the back. What i have decided to do, after looking at a cooling flow diagram, is to blank off the stub on the thermostat housing and tee into the bottom hose. So my heater water supply is now, fed...

Intermediate front cover, heater connections.
Decided to fit the intermediate front timing cover to my Rover v8 that I have had hanging around for years. Thought that I had sorted everything out, but not the heater water connections. I have a JW Racing twin port inlet manifold that has a short stub at the rear, that goes to one of the heater co...

Compression ratio, explanation required, please.
Could you clever chaps explain how the compression ratio is derived. I have a Rover 4 litre v8 with tin head gaskets and 14 hole cylinder heads. I recently did a compression check and found they were all 175/180 psi. Now we all know that atmospheric pressure is 14.7, so 180/14.7 = 12.25. This cannot...

Serpentine drive belt.
Just made up a new mounting for the alternator and needed a new length drive belt (obviously). I took the length with the tensioner in the mid travel position (between end stops). Now i have the new belt it seems a bit on the tight side. I know that the belt has to be under tension but can anyone ad...
