Re: Aftermarket ecu choice

Same answer, always. Pick your tuner first, then decide on whatever ecu they can give you the best results for what you need, and within your budget. there are dozens of ecu's out there, some tuners won't touch many of them....so don't get caught out buying something nobody wants to work with. And d...

Re: Cleaning up a aluminium engine block

How long will you spend trying to clean ? how much is your time worth for £200 ? Although bare in mind any type of media blasting uses grit media......so make sure the block is thoroughly clean before building. Especially oil galleries. A lot of engine/machine shops will have sort of hot/caustic dip...

Re: Cleaning up a aluminium engine block

Unless it's for a concourse or something, just clean as best you can, as said, wire brushes, abrasives, etc etc, perhaps a mild acid/strong wheel cleaner type product. Then just paint away. If some comes off, big deal, throw some more paint on it. I'd be inclined to use something you can easily brus...

Re: Car not starting

Hi. Will be third set of plugs in 6 months! All ht leads arc a spark when rested on engine metal but how do you define a strong spark. Did take top of afm to have a look but all looks very clean like new. I have also replaced cts If the plugs are flooded, bin them. Doesn't matter if it's 6 seconds,...

Re: Car not starting

if the plugs are flooded, bin them and fit new ones.

Have you confirmed good strong spark available at all cylinders ?

has the airflow meter been tampered with at all ? anything could have disturbed it or its wiring ?

Re: Rover v8 3.5 no compression #5

Is the piston actually moving up/down the bore? If I understood correctly you have the head of so presumably no big hole in the crown? If the valves are not obviously open you should be getting some compression even at cranking speed, hard to imagine losing all your air via a partially open valve, ...

Re: Rover v8 3.5 no compression #5

There are no photos.

Are the valves sealing ? Generally speaking, NO compression will be leaks past the valves.

LOW compression more likely piston related. So the actual numbers, speed of any pressure build up etc etc matter.

Re: Cable Identification- help!

But, your cable is probably a kickdown cable. Without it, the gears will always change up early, and if you boot the throttle, it won't kick down. Chris. Depending how much torque and driving style, not always a bad thing. I utterly despised the kickdown on my old Volvo td auto. The engine was rela...

Re: TA / Wildcat heads

They look like the IGN-1A's many people use these days At £100 a pop, I think I'll be sticking with my VAG 4 post coils for now :) They can be had cheaper, or at least used to be a lot cheaper. A lot of people using them, they are massive overkill. I don't think any RV8 ever would really need or be...

In this day and age, do the ZF8HP70, although it will require a transmission controller for the box itself.

It's becoming a very common swap these days for all manner of vehicles

Re: Bellhousing for Mazda mx5 box to Rover V8

One route to a Nissan CD009 swap, again, their approach might allow you to adapt an existing bellhousing to their adapter. But as these boxes can be popular with drifters, may be more pricey

Re: Bellhousing for Mazda mx5 box to Rover V8

I'd have thought the easiest way to adapt any 'box to the RV* would be to cut off the front end of the Rover bell housing and the front of the donor bell housing and splice together. Notice I said "easiest" not "easy"! If I were doing that I'd choose one with a detachable bell-housing though I thin...
