Re: P38 4.6 Engine upgrade

Bolt on a couple of Turbos or a supercharger will be cheapest option per £ for loads more torque. Couple of simple cast log exhaust manifolds, some cheap ebay turbos for low boost <10psi will give a massive difference. Or an second hand Eaton from a Merc or Jag, but this would need custom intake ma...

Re: Too rich / too lean

There was a 3.5 Hotwire used on early DIscos's, presumably also used in Range Rovers, but I'm not sure. I also agree that the 3.9 was not Flapper, but Hotwire. I am not aware of any Flapper that uses lambda sensors, but I also would be interested to know of something that did. Chris. That all agree...

Re: Too rich / too lean

Good news indeed, that link was a good find. Why the 2 4CU #84941B gives too rich???? mystery!!!!!! date code 2489 and 1989 I assume intended for engine with lambda probe or calibrated for the 3.9 motor. I suspect the alternate part number works to a different specification, maybe uses different inj...

Re: Rover v8 mx5 won't rev up

Hey guys, I certainly have a wing it and see attitude! IT by trade and that's how we do things 😅 Car cost me next to nothing and the plan was to spare it out. If she's running and driving it's a bonus, and certainly will be keeping the car now. https://youtube.com/shorts/5zpi_Bpu_T8?feature=share T...

Re: Rover v8 mx5 won't rev up

Is it really this simple to run forced induction with a 14CUX, simply plumb in the charger and it will take care of itself? I’m surprised at that. Although the system has a MAF I thought the fuel calculation was primarily based on RPM vs load so I’d have expected some mapping or other changes needed...

Re: EDIS timing map on stock rover v8 4.6 with 4.2 cam

Only just seen this thread, been off-line for a week or two. Can't remember the detail when I did mine but I'll try and dig out a graphic of my screen output tomorrow, however your timing seems to come in very quickly and go up quite high. I'd expect to see less advance at higher load, I think your ...

Re: big end bearing fault, found strange broken ring/sleeve

I also thought valve collet, possibly from more than one valve. Any idea on material? Is it magnetic? Based on the fact you've found "sand" in the engine previously it could also be something which doesn't belong in there which the un-professional engine builder allowed to migrate from elsewhere? An...

Re: Remote Oil Filter

On mine the filter is vertical so possible to completely fill with oil when doing an oil change. One possible downside. I've noticed that if I leave the engine without oil for a period of time during an oil change the system drains and needs re-priming. Not sure if this is due to the remote filter o...

I'd agree with your diagnosis, wouldn't trust anything on that engine without thorough inspection. Looks like something significant got ingested.

Re: High Oil Pressure

May be worth looking into whether you could get someone to hone the bore, better than paper abrasives.

Unfortunately a honing machine is one machine I don't have access to these days.

Re: SD1 Timing Marks

Started from scratch again and found timed up on a different plug as 'No.1' Putting strobe light on the actual 'No.1' meant timing marks not illuminated. Had difficulties in getting sufficient retardation with electronic distributor as attached module clashed with cylinder head. Fitted horizontal t...

Re: Rover V8 10.5cr & 8.13cr Overlap

I guess the obvious question is "What are you looking to achieve?" If it is to maintain originality/matching numbers then you should be able to build a hybrid but if it is to get the higher compression (as the thread title seems to indicate) then as Garrycol says this is down to the pistons which it...

Out of curiosity, what is the double can thing behind the intake and in front of the brake fluid reservoir?
Looks like a double servo, master cylinder either end. I thought it was the heater system at first!

Re: PCV valve for RV8

Don’t know if this helps but on the Hotwire system on my car the pipe from the crank case vent has an orifice built in to it, I think the is a similar thing in the air intake to the rocker cover so, although the air is un metered, I guess it must be a specific amount for a given manifold vacuum and ...

Re: MAP sensors, anybody know a component number?

I'd never really looked at V6 firing orders much....but some time ago came across some Vauxhall V6, and noticed it's firing order was 1,2,3,4,5,6 too. I thought it was a mistake, but not so. My thoughts exactly but I have been wrong before. I like the look of that software he's using, must have a l...
