Thank Pete I'll get hold of a pair of 68/57s and see what they do. The engine is a 4L cross bolted stage one engine with an Offenhauser dual port manifold, Weber four barrel carburettor, stage one unleaded heads, Piper RP4 high torque cam and followers, steel rockers, Cloyes duplex timing chain and ...

Trust me on this Stainless tubular headers radiate a LOT more heat than mild IAn I have a set of JP stainless manifolds (on the car when I bought it) and they create a tremendous amount of heat. All the rubbers seals under the boonet, rubber bonnet stays and engine mounts have melted. I have had to...

I have connected a vacuum gauge and it reads 18 ins/hg at 650rpm. I set the floats at 11mm a while ago and also the fuel pressure to 5-6 PSI at tickover. Not quite sure how this helps with the springs, so have put in the pink ones which are rated at 7ins/hg. The hesistation is not as pronounced, alm...

My igntion system comprises of a new Rover contactless dizzy from an SD1, (RPI told me it was a new one when they fitted it last September but I think it is one they have had remanuactured, so as good as new), an RPI power amp, magnecor 8mm leads, and NKG BP6ES plugs set at 0.8mm, and connected to t...

Thank you JSF55. I will get to the secondaries when I have the cruise and power setting right. Many thanks Sidecar. I have a copy of Des Hammill's book heading my way but am on holiday for a fortnight so it won't be much use until I get back. I have read your stuff and found it very useful. In fact ...

Edelbrock 500 jets n stuff

Been having a play with a calibration kit and a great piece of kit called a Stack wide band Lambda gauge. I have started off with the carb with 83 jets and 62/52 rods. This is how I bought the car and this set up gives a 4% leaner than stock (LTS) in cruise and 10.8% LTS in power. Set up 83 62/52 4%...

Sounds like a hose problem to me - you have a few of them too. I had a top hose develop a pin hole at its highest point so was difficult to notice unless you were revving the engine. Have you got the fan sensor inside the top hose as these can leak. Check your heater hoses too, inside the car as wel...

Have you put a volt meter on the positive side of the coil? Just a thought but you have a ballast resistor in the wiring loom and these can sometimes fail. I had a similar problem which was caused by my predecessor wiring the coil by using a scotch block onto a wire which was scotchblocked onto anot...

Jon, If the push rod cups and the faces that ru nonto the balve stems are excessively worn then you could stay with what you have. If you want new one's then V8 Tuner or Real Steel will have them in stock. http://v8tuner.co.uk/product.php?id=92 Kevin I tried buying some products from 'V8 tuner' but...

Very nice. :) I had a P6 with the original 10.5CR engine and found that the easiest way to unleash some extra power was simply to fit some SD1 heads. From memory, the early type SD1 heads were 12% more efficient than the P6 ones - This was a long time ago so my memory may be slightly out here. I als...

I have noticed that the shims under the rocker shaft pedestals are quite thick? Does this look right? Shims are quite thick, but maybe this is because the heads have been skimmed to get the CR back up somewhere reasonable? More importantly, those rockers look like standard alloy ones! I thought you...

I have an Audi A6 which is so complicated, that even Audi specialists and main dealers cannot fix it! It's £60.00 just to plug it in now as well, which is one of the reasons (and possibly the main reason) that I went out and bought a V8 powered P6 with a carb. Logical step forward? No, just another ...

I had some time tonight so I took the carb off and had a delve around. I measured the thickness of the shims under the rocker shaft pedestals and was shocked to find them to be 2.3mm. It might be time to have a look under the inlet manifold. Also, there was a strange sealant along the edges of the m...

The entire cooling system will be at the same pressure. Are you sure the top hose isnt just ready to fail ? Actually not so if the rad is blocked for instance the pressure at the inlet will be far greater than the outlet For this reason placement of the pressure relief valve / cap could make a diff...
