Intake pipework

Is 1.6mm walled ally tube thick enough for low boost pipe work? Want to use 3.5" or 4" tube and it's only available in 1.6mm or 3mm wall.

Mike I don't think there is really a sufficient amount of valve stem above the collects on a Rover V8 for lash caps, but I may be mistaken.

I've seen those pistons, and look ideal but may be too big, I haven't measured the bore accurately yet, I think the standard pistons are 82mm. Think I'll be taking the block somewhere and getting it tested to see how munch meat is around the liners! If diesel pistons didn't usually have the inverted...

The fact it is going to be supercharged will be a huge help with the low CR, and one of the plugs is hidden in a little chamber in the head, so it could work well as a pre-spark, but realistically probably not going to happen yet! I think I will just run with the spark plugs in the cylinder wall for...

Hard to get a good photo, but the ports are actually like caves inside, I don't think they will need any work at all other than a smooth with a stone! Can't move the pistons higher or grind the block down, as the spark plugs come through the sides!! I'll be looking for hemi type pistons, or diesel o...

Managed to whip the head off, and fairly impressed! 26 head studs, hollow push rods, oil squirters on the front of every rocker, huge ports in the head and reasonably good looking water flow routes. The downside is that the pistons sit 20mm down each bore at TDC, and the bores open out as well so do...

Thanks for going to the trouble Dave, much appreciated. I know this is a viable option now and MS is pretty common, so once I get the engine together and gearbox mounted I'll be back on this.

Cheers,

It was a shambles because nobody has properly tested the technology, only 2 teams had done a full distance test run before the weekend! Some cars just didn't work, none of the drivers really know how to drive them, and the gross design of the front ends must point to a lot of this being done in a bi...

Re-fuelling was one of the best things. I'd like to back order a load of old races where they were using the 5l V10's, apart from Schumacher winning every race (like Vettel) it was great watching with the noise and occasional fuelling drama!! Very un-impressed with yesterdays race, what a shambles, ...

That is big! I have looked, the best thing may be to get some of ther needle roller bearings with 3mm bore, 5mm OD and I can have some outer races made a couple of mm thick to cope with all the valve bashing. Not sure how they would get oiled though- is it enough to rely on what is splashing around ...

Oh dear, were you running it up at 11:30 last night?! I wouldn't take the cam out again, just try another 15-20 min session when you next get to start it, and sort the cooling out!!

Lost count of the amount I've looked at now!! I've been to see my bearing supplier (who can supply me with a new high quality triplex cam chain by the way!) and they can't get anything small enough for rocker roller tips. Does anyone know where on earth I can get the tiny bearings used on roller roc...

Apart from giving the crank a good scrubbing with oven cleaner (which really hurts when you get it in a cut and right under your thumb nail when the glove splits- it's gone quite red and watery now...), no weekend progress, but thought I'd post a terrifically bad photo of the crank next to a RV8 one...
