Thanks again Sidecar. I'll hold of re calibrating until I'm sure the fundamentals are correct. Trying to find a 'carb' specialist in Scotland to do the fine tuning. Yes - it is a 3.5 with CR 9.75:1 which may or may not have had head work and cam. It is on Edelbrock manifold and aircleaner (see pics)...

Well, the carb is back on the car and the car is running again. I wont know if this has cured the problem or not until I get it back out on the road. However, it seems to start a lot easier, especially from hot; and, I had to reset the idle as it had increased by 200rpm post cleaning which seems a p...

Think I might have found the problem. The fuel in passage way that fills the float chambers had a lit of rubber / silicone bits in it which had clogged the little filters. The rest of the carb was pretty grubby as well. Sprayed the cleaner through every jet, hole ect I could find. The main gasket t...

If you are very careful you can remove everything without ripping the gaskets which means that you can use them all again. You can end up swapping the primary boosters over which means that the top of the carb won't fit back on, easy to spot when you know about it![/quote] I'll follow the advice of ...

Alternator Bracket

Anyone know what version of the RV8 this alternator braket is from? https://www.flickr.com/photos/144556909@N08/shares/WDJ5vf I am trying to locate one as I think it would be the best fit for my application. Unfortunately the SD bracket doesnt work for me, and the homemade bracket on the engine curr...

Start be cleaning the carb out, by cleaning it I mean totally stripping it down including removing the boosters and cleaning the fuel wells and emulsion tubes. I have seen this issue when the air bleeds in the primary boosters become blocked. They are small vertical brass tubes that poke out of the...

Carb or Ignition issue?

Roll on acceleration, I get a hesitation after putting my foot down either from steady cruise or if I lift off and go again. Its most pronounced after a downshift, however if I blip the throttle when downshifting I don't get the hesitation. Initially I thought this might be to do with the carb throt...

Thanks for the advice chaps. Prophead that does look really cool, thank you for taking the time to do that write up, its most useful and motivating. I was thinking of a gm180 bellhousing and concentric slave, maybe Saab, they seem common place in kit cars, Id hope I can get one for a fraction of th...

I have a 924 with an RV8 conversion and a standard 944. So I can talk you through some of the challenges you might face. I'll precursor this though with the fact that I didnt do the engine conversion but can clearly see and understand what was done to do it. First up here's some pics of the 924 engi...

Mission successful! Had a good 2hr track session at Knockhill, car didnt miss a beat for the drive there, 25 or so laps and the drive home. Shifting at about 5000rpm actually felt about right, there was still some more there but the pull from the torque in the next gear worked out very nice. Was a v...

I'm going to a 2hr track session Thursday evening and won't be able dyno'd before that. Wanted to mark something sensible beforehand.

Thanks all. From these replies seems like 5,500 is a good red line to use and target gear changes 5000 to 5250.

I am hoping to get the car dyno'd in the near future, will hopefully shed some light on the truths of the 'performance' upgrades.

RPM limit?

Wanting to mark a red line / gear change limit on my new tach before I take the car to the track for the first time (by track I mean circuit not drag strip). Done a bit of web searching but cant find a consistent answer so I thought I would sanity check with you guys. What I know about the engine:- ...
