That looks like a really early RR engine. Is that a weber on top of a modified intake manifold?

If I were you, I'd join www.discoweb.org Here are some snippets from posts on there: "To be clear, Gems 4.0 and 4.6 use the same MAF so you shouldn't get any performance gains. On D2's the bosch 4.0 and 4.6 MAF's are an entirely different size. I don't know about performance differences but you prob...

Anyone have a Mobile number for Shaun or Ray at V8D?

I know I'm probably being a little paranoid, but I've not heard back from V8D since Wednesday last week since paying them for my new top-hat block... I've tried calling but it just goes to answerphone - but that never beeps (the point at which you start speaking to leave a message) which I believe m...

I've often wondered this too - so I assume this is when the lifter is completely drained down? How can you be sure the lifter is completely drained down - is there a dimension (height) to aim for? Are stock engines (a discovery 4.6 for my example) often running poor pre-load (or geometry) to warrant...

Thanks for all the pointers guys! I too don't recall any reference in the factory manual of stretch bolts, but everyone seems to sell them, so it must be true! So, I sent an email to V8D to order a new block. I agree that the guy at allyV8 in Michigan appears to be the 'specialist' on this side of t...

Cams and lifters - yes, would change as a matter of course... I always watch the ex rate carefully, I'm happy with 1.55, as it is way better than the 1.95 when I bought a quaife early last year... As regards swaps, if the Discovery was a 2002 or older, I'd be more inclined to look at something else,...

Opinion / advice on my build - and 4.6 Clevite part numbers?

I live in the USA and have a 4.6 in a 2003 Discovery that has slippy liner syndrome... It's very likely I'm going to be getting a block shipped from V8D as the prices I'm getting quoted stateside *start* at $1500 - and the lower prices are from companies who haven't much experience with doing this t...

If you have pressure-bled the lube system like I did, you should be ok for 10 seconds of idle, maybe 15 if you want to try that much. If it is taking more than that, then it needs shutting down instantly and investigating. Another idea is to maybe do my suggestion, but apply only 15psi of oil. if yo...

When I re-assembled the 4.6 in my '03 discovery after a front/top overhaul, I couldn't get any oil pressure - even well after a dozen 20-second bursts on the starter motor with the pulgs out. In the end, I took a different approach. I found a half-gallon alloy can (an ebay catch tank I never used) w...

Engineering drawings or dimensions for front of V8?

Does anyone have any drawings / bluprints / anything that shows the front-end machining dimensions; specifically the dowels for the front cover relative to the crank / camshaft? Here is the reason for my asking: It doesn't seem to be mentioned on here anywhere, but in 2003 Landrover had a problem wi...
