I had the Bosch style starter in my engine, bought new April 2006. It let go June 2007, and yes, there were about 100 small plastic pieces inside. It used to be the annulus... I got a spare for free from the autoelectic shop that sold it to me. It´s easy to fix. I can measure the starter if someone ...

If you want higher comp in a 4,0 litre engine you could fit the steel head gaskets instead of the std composite gaskets. You will gain roughly 0,6 extra points in CR. The other option is to machine the block or heads.

Thanks Peter for the link. Will contact him.

I inspect welds for living and judging by the photos on the website first class quality is an understatement !

Exhaust manifold sizing for 4,6+ engines

I´m curious about the manifold you are using on bigger engines, are they with 1,5" primaries or larger ? I would anticipate that 4,6 litre and larger engines around 300 hp mark would need bigger primaries, say 1 5/8" OD. Any thoughts ?

I have a McLeod steel flywheel and 10,5" clutch. They fit inside the SD1 bellhousing.

Tell me about it, I have a modified TR7 item currently fitted and it has a nasty vibration around 50-60 mph.

I was thinking about buying a new one from Rimmers to make another. If it is no good, does anyone know which donor car would have suitable propshaft flanges to match LT77 box and SD1 diff ?

SD1 propshaft lengths

Does anyone have info about the length of SD1 propshafts in various models ?

TR8 and TR7 5-speed diff is the same as SD1 diff. 4-speed TR7 models had a different axle. I have a TR7 axle with SD1 ratio and Quaife ATB diff.

Please take into account that the true CR can be less than quoted by the factory. Doing the math based on actual measurements I had to skim the block with 4,6 pistons to get even close to factory figure of 9,35. Pistons were down in the bore about .040" at TDC. After skimming they are now about .015...

I have used std lifters, Real Steel hi-rev lifters and currently Crane lifters. All have been noisy for the first 2-3 seconds when starting the engine, all have allowed revs past 6000 rpm.

There is actually a mechanical secondary double pumper version of 390 cfm carb, but you are very unlikely to come across a used one.

See http://www.holley.com/HiOctn/ProdLine/P ... 507-1.html

Holley #8007 390 cfm are all 4160 type carbs with metering plate on secondary side.

I have an Edlebrock manifold with std housing. This setup has the same problem but I have drilled a couple of holes in the thermostat allowing some bypass flow. Works nice. (This is an old trick with A-series engines where the notorious bypass hose used to cause problems... simple remedy is to ditch...

Sondar, if the dirt is in the air bleeds then it would definitely run rich.

As for drivability, off idle to somewhere around 2000-2500 rpm would be the range where I would expect most problems.

I finally figured out what was causing problems with my Innovate WB lambda I got it re-calibrated and working properly. I did a 400 miles trip this week and had a nice time checking the carb settings. I went back to my last summer´s setting, .86 jet, 6755 rods, .95 sec jet and fitted the strongest p...

My engine pulls cleanly from about 900-1000 rpm at 5th gear. I used to have a Holley 390 but IMO Edelbrock is a lot better especially at low revs. As for drivability, (especially with a cold engine) fixed choke is a lot better than the SU setup I have. mgbloke, like I said your air/fuel ratio figure...
