This is one neat way:

Re: Another gearbox option

Another thing, I decided to use the BMW gear change assy for simplicity. I fitted urethane bushes. The rear mount is bolted to the body in Beemers but I did not want that so I made a simple support structure. It is bolted to the end of the box. The actual gearbox rear mount design is still open. I c...

Re: Another gearbox option

One thing that this box lacks is a drive or signal to a speedo. I solved this with a ABS trigger wheel. I machined the rear flange to a press fit and Loctite´d the ring gear on the flange. A Hall sensor will be fitted. Compared to LT77 or R380, this flange is a very precise fit on gearbox output sha...

Re: Very noisy top end

Short answer: yes and no.

No, I never found the culprit so I put together a 4.6 engine. Again, using the same heads, cam, followers etc. Basically the same engine I had a year ago, just a different block.

And yes, that solved the noise issue.

Re: Chevy engine bmw gearbox

Hi,

How many gears do you want to have ? GS6-53 is a 6 speed box used in 500 series Beemers. That is a popular option in drifting cars over here, behind turbo engines at 1000 + Nm. That is roughly 700 + lb ft.

Re: Another gearbox option

Getrag weighs 45 kg with gearshift assy. I only had R380 to weigh and it was 49 kg without bellhousing and remote.

That lathe video is scary, I have also seen one where they cut an auto box.

Re: Another gearbox option

And the end result: Converted box.jpg So why such a conversion ? Well, currently I have a TR7 derived LT77 that has survived behind a healthy 4.6. I do have a rebuilt R380 but both have the same ratios and I would prefer to have 1st gear around 2.90:1 number like T5. Now, T5 boxes and matching bellh...

Another gearbox option

Here are some pics showing a BMW 6-speed box that got adapted to RV8. This will be fitted to my new engine (that is still being assembled…).

The main parts are Getrag GS6-37 box and P38 auto bellhousing. Clutch is a Sachs 240 mm 765 diaphragm and ACT 240 plate.

Re: How much Power.............

I am at 315 hp with a 4.6 bottom end. I have Merlin heads and a Real Steel hydraulic cam, the "biggest" they had. It is NLA though. Merlins were bought over 10 years ago when they were cheap (ish). At least if you buy new valves, springs, add machining and porting costs etc. They were not such an im...

Re: Cosworth T5 to RV8 4.6 and Dowell pins

You can also do the offset dowel on a 3 jaw chuck. The trick is to put a thin shim between the work piece and one jaw.

Yep, runs on all cylinders now. Funny though, usually NGK 7´s are pretty tolerant but obviously they do not like rich mixtures either.

Re: MOST FOUL RESISTANT PLUGS

I have kiiled plugs with Mini engines. I favour NGK plugs because they are easily available almost everywhere. In most cases the engine has been in tuning stage and ran idling for some time. A goos example: I used to have a Cooper S wiht 970 engine and 8-port head with Amals. The head has small plug...

Re: How much Power.............

Yes it is possible. But you will need a lot of cam, good heads, higher CR etc etc. All this means that you will push the hp and torque to higher revs, not perhaps ideal considering a 4X4 vehicle.

Re: Lambda LSU4.2 or 4.9?

I had severals years of trouble with two Innovate LM-1 units. Lots of "dead" sensors and typical explanations (sensor location, grounding etc). One of the units was sent back to USA for warranty repairs and came back (naturally) with "no problems whatsoever". I tested heat sinks, various locations bu...
