I would say there are more digits hidden before the number that is visible.

Re: LT77 gearbox
The R380 is the successor to the LT77, so would be the most logical choice. There are quite a few variants though. If your pocket is deep enough, you could order a 'new' one built to your spec from Ashcroft Transmissions. That would save a lot of searching around to get the right input shaft / gears...

Re: camshaft for high compression engine
It will definitely work, and I'm sure it will work well enough that you couldn't detect any problems without using a rolling road to measure it scientifically.

Re: P38 Rover V8s
Yeah, I put a Thor engine in my Land Rover, coupled to an R380. I used Tornado Systems to alter the ECU to a 'standalone' system. The wiring is still complicated - so I did a drawing which I gave them. Note that you need the right ECU to start with - I think a Discovery II ECU (they will tell you). ...

I don't know the answer, and I suspect it will be almost impossible to get a definitive answer!

Re: V8 3.5 Ignition Switch Wiring.
They are not standard ignition colours!! You are going to have to find out where they go... One of them will be a permanent feed from the battery which you could find with a test lamp. The other three are probably accessories, ignition, crank engine. So dab the permanent feed on each one in turn and...

Re: Ignition system setup from scratch!
It's not too hard - I've done it myself a few times. First you need to get No. 1 at TDC. Easiest way is to remove 'even' side rocker cover, so you can see the rockers on No. 6, and remove No. 1 spark plug. Turn the engine until both valves on No. 6 are just open, i.e. one is nearly closed and the ot...

Re: Rover 3.5 V8 Carb (Issues)
If the rev counter is not working, then you must have a problem on the low tension side of the ignition system. Worth getting that sorted out before worrying about anything else.

Re: Crankcase Ventilation
I think you are right - setting something up similar to Thor / GEMS is your only option. I guess it goes into the inlet before the throttle butterflies.

Re: Too rich / too lean
There was a 3.5 Hotwire used on early DIscos's, presumably also used in Range Rovers, but I'm not sure.
I also agree that the 3.9 was not Flapper, but Hotwire.
I am not aware of any Flapper that uses lambda sensors, but I also would be interested to know of something that did.

Re: Spade connectors
I buy mine from RS Components. Generally the RS Pro ones are OK, but to be 100% sure, get them from a good brand (anything other than RS Pro), and they'll be good.
Get the correct crimp tool which should cost you about £40.

Re: Location of DAC1861 Diode Pack
And on the 4CU, it's main purpose was to power the fuel pump relay if either the engine was being cranked, or there was air flowing through the AFM.
So the fuel pump would automatically stop if the engine stalled.
