Re: V8 GEMS oil cooler lines size
I used the same 1/2" lines on my 3.5 V8 and the oil pressure drop was terrible. I got an oil filter adaptor and fittings for 5/8" ID hoses and the oil pressure went right back up to normal.

Yup, I hope to put it a big container of water, heat it up, and pressure test it. It's just such a weird gamble.

Re: RV8 Suddenly Doing 17-18 AFR at 50 kmh
Twice I've followed the manual when it said to leave the front and rear gasket clamp bolts loose so it would move as the manifold was tightened up, and both times had trouble. This last time I tightened them up to hold the gasket in place and that seemed to help locate it as the manifold was put in ...

Re: So I've Got This Old Rover 4.6 I Want to Use . . .
Yes, I've seen that PDF, but thanks for linking it. So, yes, that's what I was thinking about this engine, it wasn't in a P38a so it hasn't been run as hot and nothing obvious seems wrong with it. (Apart from #3 and #5 rods being swapped around! Probably a factory fit???) The 3.5 in the car at the m...

Yes, Rover V8s. Most US Land Rover forums have something about it.
The o-ring is part of the sleeves Turner sells, and they haven't had any problems with it.
And I'd do the pinning. All part of living in WA!

Re: So I've Got This Old Rover 4.6 I Want to Use . . .
I've had some really bad and bizarre experiences with an impressive range of Perth businesses over many years. It's a complete gamble. I know a place in Perth was mentioned on aulro.com some years ago, but still nobody has the reputation of, say, Turner Engineering UK. There's a certain way to insta...

Re: So I've Got This Old Rover 4.6 I Want to Use . . .
Hi Garry, and thank you, I didn't pick up on that point - it's a factory 4.6 that replaced a 3.9, so it had 3.9 heads, timing cover, etc. There's no-one down south I would trust on this job. I would put using this block or getting someone in WA to fit top hats in the same category of risk. Some comp...

So I've Got This Old Rover 4.6 I Want to Use . . .
. . . and you know how it goes . . . what are the latest opinions on liners, cracks, etc. My old Range Rover has a 3.5 with only 20,200 km on it, but I've got a camping trailer to tow so naturally I want more power. (Of course I do.) So I've got a used 4.6 and I was all set to get a Turner top-hatte...

Re: RV8 Suddenly Doing 17-18 AFR at 50 kmh
Well, I finally fixed it a few months ago and now finally remembered to update this thread. I managed to narrow the problem down to the inlet manifold gasket and it seemed okay after tightening the bolts, only to get worse soon after - the car wouldn't even run without lots of choke, and then only r...

So the noise problem is solved?
You can find TDC easily enough through the #1 spark plug hole and set up the pointer from there.

Re: Oil leak, new Rover V8 headgaskets
I am confused: how are the liners proud of the block? They're supposed to be machined when the block is decked. I'm selfishly concerned because I've been after a Turner block for years now.

It should be a standard one, then. I don't think Turner sold much that wasn't.

Re: lack of oil in rocker covers
Oh dear, you make notes when you rebuild an engine, just like I did . . . except, er, I've lost them! If you remove the distributor you'll see what's in there, and if you didn't do some grinding on the inside of the timing cover then the wider chain will grind away quite happily. Of course it's more...
