HT Lead resistance

At the moment I have a set of silicone HT leads from Accuspark on my Rover V8, and whilst sorting out my spares cupboard came across a set of HT leads made by Pertronix in the USA. On measuring the resistance of the 2 types, I was amazed at the difference: UK set 12 K Ohm per metre, USA set 1.13 K O...

Real Petrol

Just been down to Esso station and noticed they have recently introduced Synergy Supreme +, which is not only 99 octane, but more importantly for many of our cars, totally ethanol free (unlike Shell and BP's super fuels which are 5%). Copied from Esso website: Although our pumps have E5 labels on th...

Re: Normal or Super Petrol????

Ok, I was hoping that with less ethanol in the high octane petrol it might have given me a slightly cleaner burn!
I will borrow brothers Gunsons CO2 thingy and play with the selection of jets/rods that I have around!

Normal or Super Petrol????

Hawk 289 passed (barely) it's annual MoT, bit iffy on the CO2 aspect. I'm running a 3.9l with the ubiquitous Weber, timing at 800 rpm 12 degrees, all in (32) at 2800. Jets .83 Rods 63/47. Oil changed/new air filter etc. and a good blast before test. I Generally use 95 octane with no problems, but wo...

Rover V8 Birthday

I may be the last one to know, but I hadn't realised that this is the 50th Anniversary of the Rover V8 engine's arrival in the UK.

Happy birthday, I don't know what I would have done without you,

E46 gearbox

I run a tatty E46 325 which has pretty much the same gearbox, and I agree with your comments. The downside is that mine needed a new clutch at 130,000 and as it is the Dual Mass Flywheel type it a pain (and relativity expensive) as if you change the clutch you really need to change the flywheel as w...

Rover points

Why on earth would you want to keep a points system anyway, regardless of whose points you use?!
Just fit the Powerspark conversion for £32.95 and forget it.

Camshaft id

First reaction would be a Piper RP4, but would expect the numerical ref to be 270 or 285. Might be the Optimax version?

I'm the other one having no luck with this unit. Been trying to get it to work properly since Christmas! It's had two software upgrades but having changed every other part of the ignition system with no improvement, I reverted to the old spring and bob system with it's Aldon ignitor and it runs up t...

Smiths Mechanical Water Temp gauge

Just in the process of changing electrical gauge for Smiths Mechanical one with the long bulb. I am fitting it into the standard RV8 Performer manifold, but not sure what thread adaptor I need to do this. Guidance please.
