Clarkson is dead right, these Rover V8's sound like two fat people mud wrestling in a well. Lovely sound. That is one cool Chevette, a far cry from the asthmatic 1256cc Pastel blue 3 dr my Dad used to have! Very cool indeed 8)

do'h  I just read the 'gearbox' section of the Haynes manual for the Rover SD1 and it states in there that the box is the same as a TR7!

Is the five speed box fitted to a TR7 an LT77? If so, with the correct bell-housing, would it be compatible with a Rover V8 engine?

Many thanks

I saw a Dolly V8 at Himley (Dudley West Mids) last year and it was awesome. Certainly turned loads of heads despite the company it was keeping. (Ford model Y Hotrod, GT40 replica etc) I have some pics if you want to see it. Paintwork was superb too, a pearl red and silver, very expertly done!

Have you tried MGOC spares? They do the parabolic springs (less leaves for less friction) and if my memory serves me they do lowered ones too?

Will be taking more pics over the weekend as the stripdown continues, body off next then its chassis off to the blasters an...

The rubber diaphrams do perish and would give exactly the problem you describe. Had this on my late Fathers Sd1 and the difference when the new rubbers were fitted was tremendous. They are only a few quid too. There is an excellent book on the market (try Ebay) called SU Carburettors and fuel pumps....

Would agree with Kiwi, my Scimitar had the same problem. The coil on my Scimitar got warm when the engine was hot causing it the break down inside. Leave the car to stand for five mins and it would go again. Took a week to track the fault down. Also check the integrity of your engine earth leads / c...
