Re: Oil Warning light on !

I spent quite some time filling the oil pump with vaseline and removed the two impellers and filled their gaps as well, as part of the process. I fitted a new switch just as precaution and gasket (thank you Rimmers) and put blanks in to one of the unused senor holes and filled them with vaseline at ...

Re: Oil Warning light on !

During the priming process the drill was turning in a clockwise direction and for roughly 3 minutes, but no joy. I have removed the oil sensor from the oil pump and checked it using a multi meter and bike pump and the sensor works so this suggests a lack of priming in the pump. So, I have also remov...

Re: Oil Warning light on !

I made a drive shaft for the oil pump from a large screw driver and used an electric drill to turn it, initially at low speed and then slowly increasing the speed until reaching a medium drill speed but no joy with making the oil light go out. I could try taking off the oil pump and packing with vas...

Re: Oil Warning light on !

Hi I had the sump off and oil pick up removed for about 4 months so plenty of time for the oil to run out, sadly :( My oil pump and filter are the standard format and location. I am using the 20/50 oil which seems to be the most popular option. Is there ay chance that the oil pressure light will go ...

Re: Oil Warning light on !

Thanks, I will try spinning the oil pump via the distributor drive and have a go at making my own tool for this as I live in Shropshire, but a kind offer to borrow yours.

Oil Warning light on !

Hi I have just removed the sump and cleaned it out, along with the oil pick up and put it all back together on my Rover V8 SD1 roughly 1978 and filled it with oil, and there is plenty on the dip stick. Engine started well but the oil warning light on the dash stays on (it is in a TR7 body) and I am ...

left over part! -where does it go?

Hi I have removed the gear box from my Rover SD1 v8 which is in a TR7 over the winter in order to replace the crank seals and have now put the gear box back in place. But, as with many projects I have a part left over and cannot remember where goes on the engine or gearbox and it does look quite imp...

SD1 Sump Bolts - torque

Hi - I have set out to stop the oil leaks from my Rover sd1 v8 circa 1988 and have used a composite gasket which seems to have done the job so far on the reassembly. My tr8 handbook suggests 11Nm for all the bolts except the two at the rear where it suggests 28 Nm which concerns me as it is so much ...

Re: LT 77 Gearbox removal problems

thanks for the advice and it just needed a bit more persuasion to shift it. I hooked a ratchet strap to the hole in the bell housing and the attached the other end to the back axle. Then tightened the strap until until it made a nice twang. The box still did not move so I then used the wood chisel a...

rear crank seal insertion

Hi - I am trying to replace the rear crank seal on my Rover V8 sd1 motor circa 1978 and have removed the old seal and gone through the steps to clean up etc the shaft and applied oil to the shaft and inner rim of the seal. I am now struggling to get the new seal on to the shaft despite a lot of pres...

LT 77 Gearbox removal problems

Hi - I am trying to remove the LT77 gear box from a Rover v8 SD1 motor which is in a TR7. I have followed the advice in the TR8 dealer manual and lowered the engine slightly etc and removed all the bolts, wiring and slave cylinder but no sign of the two coming apart despite some encouragement from a...

Re: Crankshaft Pulley wear

Many thanks, and I have dropped a line to Simply Bearings to get the details sorted out. That is a big help as I was not sure on how to deal with it. I will then get to the other end of the engine and remove the gear box to get to the rear seal which is leaking badly, which could be an interesting o...

Re: Crankshaft Pulley wear

Thank you the guidance and as I am a bit of a newbie to this process could you give a bit more guidance on how this works? So does the existing sleeve have to go on a lathe to have the diameter reduced to fit the new sleeve over it or if the sleeve goes straight over it do I need a different sized o...
