Re: Rocker shaft. Whats the max clearance?

There are no figures in any of the Rover manuals that I have seen, they only tell you to inspect for wear, if any is present I guess that they expect you to replace them. I replaced my shafts and rockers, though the replacement rockers I got were steel rather than the expensive alloy ones. Is there...

Re: Rocker shaft. Whats the max clearance?

This is a volvo shaft as its 22mm.

I'm measuring 0.13mm clearance worst case, so they are a bit worn.

I would guess 0.05mm would be the right clearance?

Rocker shaft. Whats the max clearance?

What clearance would be OK on the rocker shaft?

I can feel some ridges on mine. I'll measure up tomorrow and see, but rockers feel a bit rattely!

Replacement shafts seem pretty cheap but I have volvo rocker arms and I'm not sure where I can get them or if they can be rebushed?

Re: What cam do, did, I have?

It was a stock 4.2 cam. Bought another one from a landrover parts place, only £70. Measured it against the old one. It's even made by the same company. Did you check the specs of it, duration and lobe centrelines? Be interesting to see if it is the same as mine or same as the specs on Rave. I have ...

The new one has just cleared customs so should be here by the end of the week so I can pull this one out and compare them.
Great!

Re: 4.2 cam specs

I'd be interested to know this too!

I have this cam in my 4.6 that needs replacing. No idea what it is though.

It has the dizzy drive on, so might be a stock 4.2 cam?

Re: Rebores on the 4.6L?

When I had top hat liners fitted, I kept my old pistons and just fitted new rings. Both times. It worked fine. Chris. Hi Chris, no can do! My pin bores are shot on at least 2 pistons so will be getting new pistons. Question is: +20 rebore or replace all the liners. Replacing the liners seems to be ...

Rebores on the 4.6L?

Reading the specs on the 4.6L, it appears that even a tiny bit of wear means you need a rebore? From a factory size of 94mm, you get a limit of 0.015mm of wear (a bit over half a thou). Then you can go to a B size piston at 94.016mm. Another 0.015mm on a 'B' size bore and it's time for new sleeves o...

Re: What can you tell from my heads and bores?

Looks like I have a couple of oval bores. 7 and 8 are 0.1mm over 94mm.

I'm already on B size pistons so looks like new liners...

I guess I'd have to do all 8 and then put in new pistons and rings too. It's getting expensive!

Re: Damaged cam? (low comp and missfire)

The cam was knackered. Some minor vertical scores in the bores too. Rings all good.

Just about to check the valves now!

Re: Crank pulley

I got the bolt out easy with the rattle gun. The pulley didn't want to budge. In the end I put a drift in behind it (sump off), really close to the centre where it has some meat and give it a few taps, then turned it and repeated. Eventually it moved and then slide off. No point in putting any force...

Happen to be looking at mine tonight too! These are the worst. You can see the marking on the shells too.

Might try the bootlace and 400 oxide paper first!

Have you checked the installed height of the valves, if the pedestals are shimmed it may be because longer stemmed valves have been fitted.
Not measured the installed height yet... There are shims on the pedestals.

John Eales didn't recognize the cam code either! Very odd.
