Re: Remote ignition module

Unfortunately I didn't take a picture of the end result, and the car is no longer in my garage. We ended up testing it both ways around by crimping the terminals on, but not pushing the terminals into a connector body yet. When they are the wrong way around, the car will run, but not smoothly. When ...

Re: Remote ignition module

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vdQlP6-aM7c Just to close the topic. It did matter which way around the wires ended up between the remote module and the distributor. We tried both ways, and the wrong way it ran as if it was skipping an ignition cycle, i.e. lumpy. Reversing the wires and she purrs l...

Re: Remote ignition module

I think you're right Dave, and it was my assumption that the ignition amplifier/module drove the distributor, but it is the other way around https://i.imgur.com/BUVvPKe.jpg The 2-pin connector ends up sensing the windings and then feeding the 3-pin with the signal. On closer inspection of the igniti...

Re: Remote ignition module

Thanks, that would just leave me to find out what pin 1 (left) and pin 3 (right) on the remote ignition module go to on the 2-pin distributor connector. Given that the distributor's connector has two black wires into it, I suspect it may not matter, but would be good to know for sure...

Re: Remote ignition module

This is also a 3.9. Do you think you can

1) confirm that I should be connecting the 3-pin to the 2-pin
2) confirm what the wiring should be

?

Remote ignition module

Hi, I'm helping out a friend with a Westfield SEiGHT who suffered from an unfortunate wire melting incident and needs it rewiring. The original loom was a butchered Land Rover loom, but this time we're fitting a Westfield chassis loom and an V8 engine loom as supplied by John Eales. A mystery I am f...

Re: Distributer / Vacuum advance screw size

Thanks all, and especially DaveEFI who pointed me to the UK socket screws. Perfect fit (after shortening them a little).

Re: Distributer / Vacuum advance screw size

Thanks Paul, that would be appreciated. I'm hoping it is something like an M3 or M4 thread, but with everything else on the engine being Imperial, it may be more obscure than that...

Distributer / Vacuum advance screw size

Hi, My Westfield SEiGHT is currently in the garage for winter maintenance and I don't know how long ago this has happened, but my vavuum advance is no longer part of the distributer. Both screws are missing  https://i.imgur.com/Olx5yPU.jpg https://i.imgur.com/7fjjlsH.jpg Does anyone know what...

Re: Remote oil filter housing with oil pressure sensor leaking

The o-ring is just there to bridge a gap that I spotted when I investigated the original leak. It felt like there should have been an o-ring due to the way there was an empty section behind the thread. As for doing the whole thread in PTFE, I read everywhere that you should skip the 1st thread.

Re: Remote oil filter housing with oil pressure sensor leaking

Like you say, I'm most likely overthinking things, mainly because I hate fixing things twice. I went with the Permatex for the sensor and PTFE and an o-ring for the T-piece https://i.imgur.com/fQWkUg4.jpg Have put it all back together and run the engine and so far no leaks. If the weather wassn't so...

Re: Remote oil filter housing with oil pressure sensor leaking

As I've got both parts on the bench I wrapped the last bit of threads on the sensor with PTFE tape and then did them back up together (only hand tight) and then undid them again. The PTFE was now cut into the grooves into a tiny PTFE strip with nothing on the 'hill' of the male thread. I seriously d...

Remote oil filter housing with oil pressure sensor leaking

Hi all, been lurking for a while now, but think I need to ask for some advice now. I've got a Westfield SEiGHT with a 3.9L EFI Rover V8 fitted which uses a remote filter housing to avoid the steering column in a very tight engine bay. On Friday I came back from a trip and there was a lot of oil on m...
