Re: Range Rover 17D - detuned?
Hi Chris - I'd already checked the compression ratio and it's 9.35 : 1. Is it likely that carb jetting or reduced choke diameter was the way that they were detuned .... i wonder..

Range Rover 17D - detuned?
How do! I have just aquired a RR 17D ( yes has the manifold air injection ) from a very nice couple on the Wirral ( hiya Gary - if you are a visitor/member ). Anyway the lump checks out pretty well ( although i'm planning a strip down anyway ). The question is - i remember the RR v8's being lower po...

Re: I'm new - so hiya
The manual 'box option is starting to look more appealing - What are the favoured choices these days for manual gearbox fitment? It's been 25 years since i last used the Rv8. Also what are the best engine oil choices now - is it still Morrisons ?

Re: I'm new - so hiya
So it looks like the 4hp22 most suitable would probably come from a bmw 5 series or jag xj40 - xj6. Sends a bit of a shudder down my back though that the 'box could be trashed by the mot man. I wonder how many young bmw 'driver's ' have trashed them themselves revvin' up - along with their rattly ti...

Re: Anyone got one of these?
Seem's a bit mad scientist - but bear with me! The media swirling around in the blasting gun can create a static charge. If you spend enough time blasting within a cabinet you often get static shocks ( i spent 8 years in a tyre factory cleaning moulding components various alloys, steels and aluminium...

Re: I'm new - so hiya
Yes i agree with the comment on the final gearing - i had thought of that a couple of years ago when i decided to keep the old van. My solution was to find a late 2.0 sr engined manual 'box serena with the independent multi link rear suspension ( all constructed within a handy subframe ) and lsd - a...

Re: I'm new - so hiya
The old ld23 engine is still in - the v8 is replacing it. Lots of fettling and fabricating but i have the time and wherewithal to do it. The 2wd zf 4hp22 box and RR v8 convertor/bell - housing i have to admit i hadn't thought of - I like learning new stuff :D I was stuck on the BG 35/65 school of th...

Re: I'm new - so hiya
Hi Chris, No pics as yet j- just a growing pile of parts in the shed with my trusty old van. I have taken early retirement and will enjoy this over the next year or so along with the house and new garage. The project is in the planning stage at the moment - initial measurements in the engine bay ( b...
