Ben, The best results are from opening the throat to valve seat size and blending into the bowl, bullet the ends of the valve guides but leave the port runners standard size and only remove excess casting flash and this will maintain gas speed and avoid seperation of fuel air at lower RPMs. You can ...

Certainly not standard at +40 with cutouts and indicate an engine that may have had some serious work done, what are the heads like? pictures would be helpful, a small dish may be 9.75 / 1 compression depending on where the pistons are at top dead centre. You may have to source from the US D & D fab...

Re: Stump Puller Cam Question

Please help. The real steel stump-puller cam i have has a max valve lift of 0.465" for inlet and exhaust valves. Im fitting to late type injection heads with the later type valve stem seals. Will i get away with fitting this cam without machining the tops of the valve guides? The heads are already ...

Mark,

Engine sounds great and the car is certainly quick, considering the track looked a little damp it seems to stick very well.

Kevin.

If I can't make the pin push fit then it's standard rods for me.
If those new pistons are not exactly the same weight as the original ones then you will have to have a full rebalance.

Chevy 305 bore is 3,736". is it possible to bore the Rover cylinders to that size, given that liners would not have too much materia left ? Anyone with practical experience ? I spoke to Ian Richardson at Wildcat before I did mine and he said a 1mm. overbore was the limit so using the chevy piston i...

So my old non stretch head bolts should be ok, with the 4 outer being tightened down less, yes?

If in good condition. yes.

What valve springs do RS now recommend for the typhoon cam?

Sean, Real Steel or V8 Tuner should have the single one coil less springs suitable for the Real Steel typhoon cam. I would use ARP studs for the mains and normal NON stretch bolts for the heads, if you head bolts are non stretch you could re-use them. For the heads who are you buying from? Check whe...

Well unless you are changing stroke and need a different length rod, then I would just use the 3.9 rods as they should be perfectly adequate for all but full race use. Paul responds better to a phone call. Just checked and those 5.85" rods will not work with the pin height of the rover piston and wo...

I have to ask why the change to chevy rods and retain the relatively weak rover piston, are you changing the stroke as well? You could swap the pistons for Keith Black Hypereutectic Chevy 305 items and bore the block to 3.736" + required clearance. presumably your using a 3.9 block as a base. My eng...

Are you using the rover pin and bushing the rod to size? if so i would think it would be difficult to have the pin as press fit.

Hi Dan,

Nice of you to drop in and provide your usual technical expertise, hows the new 4.3? Rover project with the Mickey Thompson heads coming along?

Strangely I ended up with a 22lb flywheel on my 4.35 Rover and it does rev quite freely and is very easy to pull away.

Kevin Jackson.

Mark,

A further thought. if you have the original SU set up they will flow enough mixture to fuel a 200+ BHP engine so you will get no real advantage by swapping to a 4 barrel and fuel economy will probably be better with the SU's

Mark, There is no Edelbrock 400 carb, there was a Carter 400 which the Edelbrock was developed from. The 500 will work on a 3.5 engine but is a little large for a unmodified 3.5 engine and will need recalibration as it comes jetted for a 5.0 engine. A Holley 390 vacuum secondary might be a better ch...

Scoring and wear on the base plate increases the tolerances in the pump and reduces efficiency.

Is the remote filter plate reasonably new? in which case it should be ok but scoring would be easily visible.
